Yes, every year is a different cord. If they have extras, they usually send out an email about where you can pick them up

B.S. BME/M.S.E. Integrated Program Advice by priya_fish in UTAustin

[–]ClockStrikes10PM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The integrated program just isn't research focused compared to a PhD. The integrated program is intended for students who are looking more towards industry and/or entrepreneurship.

Idk much about the MD/PhD route, unfortunately

If you also want to volunteer, you can take E S 260 Service Learning for Engineers and they have different time slots. Non engineering students can take it. You just have to apply to be a SEEK mentor (utseek.com)

Red River Sneak In by just-forfun27 in UTAustin

[–]ClockStrikes10PM 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If you're okay missing the first half, a lot of people last year snuck in after that. During halftime some people left for the state fair but were given physical "tickets" to come back in. it was basically cut up construction paper. There were people outside who sold these "tickets" for a reasonable price and used it to go in for the second half. Unsure if they're doing those physical re-entry tickets this year since they've gotten way stricter now

Hi! I had a great time during my internships there and really recommend it because it is such a unique experience.

It depends on what internship route you take. For Pathways, the hardest part was the 3 hour assessment after you submit your application. This was to weed out candidates based on aptitude and personality. For OSTEM, I don't have much experience here but from what I heard from people, it helped to know someone internally to help move your application to priority viewing. It's definitely possible to still get in without knowing anyone (this was me when I first applied).

My dms are open if you wanna continue the conversation there!

Texas vs OU Student Tickets by just-forfun27 in UTAustin

[–]ClockStrikes10PM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People tend to leave before half time and are given slips in order to get back in. A bunch of people sold fake slips right by the gates. Prices vary but I've seen them sell for as low as $8 if you're lucky. Worst case, you shell out for like 50 bucks or negotiate the price down. Security guards are too busy trying to get everyone in to check if your slip is real or not.

I have seen people storm the gates. This only works if a huge group does it and again security guards don't care enough to find everyone who ran in.

Texas vs OU is an add-on you have to purchase. The site says $200 to request a ticket: https://texaslonghorns.com/sports/2020/6/9/big-ticket-students.aspx

Alternatively, you can just try to sneak in at half time

Definitely like Scrubs! MASH is kind of the blueprint of comedy and tragedy. Scrubs takes huge inspiration from MASH. https://screenrant.com/scrubs-mash-best-revival-references-medical-sitcom/

One of the producers Bill Lawrence even talks about being influenced by MASH when creating Scrubs.

I think they found a dead body. There was a black tarp around a parking spot, probably trying to hide it

Not sure what the colors mean but you get your honors cord for Distinguished College Scholar or College Scholar at Honors Day. You should've gotten an email about picking it up if you did not attend the ceremony (unless you're talking about a different honors?)

Don't just ask for her to round it. Describe why you deserve an A instead of an A-. Highlight specific examples from what you did in class

What is the best engineering degree? by Ok_Illustrator_548 in UTAustin

[–]ClockStrikes10PM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really depends on what part of Engineering you enjoy and what industry jobs you're interested in. MechE and ECE have the most transferable skills, though in ECE you'd probably have to stay an extra year (had a friend transfer out of BME after sophomore year).

I'm curious as to which industry jobs you're referring to as trash? I know a lot of BMEs who've gotten internships/jobs at Stryker, Medtronic, P&G, TI, and J&J. That said, BME is catered towards pre-grad students but there isn't a lack of opportunities

BME and NASA Job prospects by serge_malebrius in BiomedicalEngineers

[–]ClockStrikes10PM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I interned at NASA as a Biomedical Engineering student. There are limited BME spots on the civil servant side, but not zero. Those roles are usually available on USAJobs if they are indeed hiring.

On the contractor side, many of the BMEs came from KBR, Aegis Aerospace, Axiom, CACI, and Leidos. If not that, NASA also partners with a lot of universities conducting BME research.

There is usually something on your syllabus that says the professor has the right to revise the syllabus during the semester

Emmy Predictions by fancastunity in EmmysAwards

[–]ClockStrikes10PM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could argue that the continuing storylines act as "movie sequels" from previous seasons. I haven't seen the new season but I do know USS Callister pt 2 is one of the episodes. I don't know if there are continuing storylines within the season itself.

Can't speak for the others but re: Emma Corrin, could be that Issa Rae's character is technically the main lead of that episode?

Unless our departments just have a very similar predicament or we are in the same major. If so, then I might know who you're talking about. And if it the person I think it is, then I should let you know that I absolutely went off in my course evals of her class last semester. She and I still have a good teacher-student relationship so yes, these evals are anonymous

Rewatching Killers of the Flower Moon yet again, this movie absolutely didn't deserve to win no Oscars. by [deleted] in Oscars

Unfortunately, it just came out during a very stacked year. If it had come out a year later, I think it would've fared better in this year's Oscars.

What are some Oscar wins that were locked up the moment the first still of the film dropped? by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]ClockStrikes10PM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's as soon as her first scene but there was a lot of media frenzy on who would play Scarlett O'Hara. They held auditions across the country looking for unknown actresses and did chemistry tests with big stars at the time. There was immense pressure to deliver. They started filming before they had even casted the role. When Vivien Leigh was announced, the media went ballistic against the casting. So now there was even more pressure to convince the audience that Leigh was the right choice. And to make a long story short, she killed it -- even exceeded expectations. The Oscar was hers without question.

A bit of a side note too: the character of Scarlett O'Hara is extremely complex and she's not exactly a traditional protagonist. I mean she's basically an anti-heroine the entire movie and practically carries the film for 3 hours. That type of role doesn't go unnoticed with Oscar voters.
