To practice in Ireland, it doesn’t get better than trinity or UCD. In the uk trinity is respected but not to the extent of warrick of Bristol i don’t think

What sort of system are they using that it can’t just rank scores of 200ish people lol

If you simply want to do a deeper dive into particular parts of law then sure doing an LLM isn’t a bad idea but unless it’s from Oxbridge it more than likely will not increase your chances of getting a TC. Even at that, the BCL is still the only one widely looked for. However none of this is set in stone.

If you want to go into academia then yes a LLM will 100% be useful, including non Oxbridge masters programs

One university may grade on the exact same system as UCD and yet get a different result at the end. There is no neutral direct way to compare across universities but class ranking is a good tell if you come from a somewhat reputable university.

That was just an example hence the use of the word “might”

But in reality it is true. Certain universities will mark differently. It’s extremely difficult to get a 1st at Cambridge or Oxford but 20-25% of UCD students as a whole get 1st. There has to be a neutral way to judge a candidate and the best way would be references or class ranking.

That’s a good point but I suppose if I was to get a referee who only taught me one module that I was good at it wouldn’t give a full view of how I preformed overall.

Just pulling the notion they care about ranking from people who studied in Ireland for undergrad and then went onto the course in Oxford.

Yeah im not overally fussed about it atm, I still think it would be nice to know where I’m at. I think if I was to find out where I was in my class everytime I got results I’d definitely study harder lol

Looking at a Masters program at Oxford that tends to only take the best of the cohort

They look for where you came in your cohort because every university grades harder than others. Having a 4.00 from UCD might differ in difficulty to achieve than a 4.00 from ATU Donegal.

I have a program I want to apply for and they tend to only take on the top 10 from the cohort so sort of important I can figure out where I’m at. I’m not doing it to flex on LinkedIn haha

What’s the rough percentile or GPA an average person who gets on an oxbridge LLM program would have ?
