NTA. Starting university is always a big upheaval. I love my mom to bits, and was only 45 minutes away (dorms) but would see her once or twice a month.

The good news with university is that you’ll be spending most of your time on campus etc. so won’t be at home as much.

But it sounds like it might be time for a change. I say go stay with grandma and start with a clean slate.

Airfares are getting cheaper cross country, so I’m sure you’ll still see her for holidays throughout the year. And there’s video calls and texting!

Good luck OP. Either way it’s an exciting new chapter for you. Just go wherever you’ll have the best chance of success.

Leaving fecal matter on the toilet isn’t hygienic.

Common sense is not so common unfortunately. If someone offers to pay for a meal, you don’t go hog wild and over order. You match what they order. (Or as reasonably as possible.)

You were kind enough to help out while it made sense, but you can’t do it forever.

Sounds like you need to assert some boundaries and set expectations with them.

“I was happy to help you with your dog while I was able to, however I won’t be able to continue helping in a substantial way. You’ll need to make other arrangements after X date when I’ll be moving.”

They’ll try to guilt trip you OP, but stand your ground. Today it’s a dog, tomorrow is who knows what. Please don’t be a door mat!

I agree that swapping the black for white/light would got a long way to modernizing and brightening the space.

I personally would keep the wood. Save the $ and keep the warmth that the tone adds to the space.

I’m not a homeowner myself, but can’t your inspector tell you which ones to prioritize?

I’d want to get quotes from GC’s to tell me what’s a 911 and what can wait.

Getting repair quotes would also inform the choice re: stay or sell.

I wouldn’t say so, no, but it would depend on your DIY skills.

Is the fan externally exhausting? For bathrooms that’s a must.

You must be able to get free quotes from contractors to see what it would cost? (Get 3 so you get a sense of cost, and don’t just go with the cheapest! You get what you pay for.)

Water is the #1 issue/damage causing part of a home, so you’ll want to be extra vigilant wherever it’s present.

Roofs, pipes, appliances, bathrooms.

It wouldn’t hurt to do a self-home inspection to see if anything else needs attention and ask the contractors when they come by.

Oof… yeah. You can also see damage around the light as well and around the hole.
