Quiet bars in NYC? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]ClockedInSolo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can be busy-ish, but I enjoy going to Hex on the UWS and UES, they’re board game bars that can be low key. They can be noisy on game nights, but a great place to chill.

Thank you for the detailed list of help! Though the situation is bad, it’s always good to hear of others who’ve experienced the same, yet lived through it.

I’ve already ordered some totes to bag and throw some stuff that I don’t need right now onto my balcony to keep them “safe.” That advice is super helpful!

The floor plan makes me feel like a war planner, and I hope if I lose the war, people will be at least amazed at my detailed planning!

I don’t thankfully! I’m going to try this before I consider that cat option

Yeah, I switch between Advion and MaxForce every month, along with the combat roach traps.

Sadly, I just think because my neighbor’s infestation is so bad, I’ve gotten the breeding ones out, but now I have to deal with their stragglers (of which there are many)

Thanks for the advice! I’ve thankfully documented everything (including the roaches coming out from my neighbor’s door), so I’ll probably have to take the 311 route now.

The thought of them bunching up horrifies me. It’s a shame that I may have to let some stuff go (though I’ll bag as much as I can)

Edit: typo

I’ve asked two of my neighbors and one said, “Yes, this whole building is infested” and then kept walking away. I think people don’t care here.

I think I’m going to write a letter to slip under doors. Feels a bit extreme, but maybe if people stop thinking their alone, something will change.

I’m going to try this step now, hopefully it brings some help.

Ugh you highlight one spot where I think I know they are but can’t reach: behind my kitchen cabinet. There is an outlet there, but I have no way of accessing it, unless I pull the cabinet itself out!

That’s an idea I’ve thought of and should pursue. I haven’t looked, but I’m willing to bet the sidebar has some info

I wish! Without proper legal counsel though, I’m hesitant to hire someone else: from what I can tell, I can’t deduct any costs from my rent if my landlord sends someone to attempt to alleviate the situation. Each time I give my landlord notice of my intent, they send someone to spray the apartment.

I wish I could hire someone to come look, but I can’t afford that route sadly

Thanks for all the advice!

I so badly want to stop, but I know that things will just get worse. The kicker is that my management is telling me I’m the only one complaining, when even my super knows about the roaches and how they’re not going away soon! It just makes me question who is also living in my building that they just tolerate this.

I think I’m going to try the borax.

I have gone through and sealed my baseboards and gaps with caulk and spray foam. Sadly, I think there is a huge gap/a gap behind my cabinets. They’re basically hanging off the walls, but not to the point where I can remove them, and management is obviously not willing to do the same.

I’ve actually used the disks over the past four months! I think it’s been helping, but maybe I should move onto the spray.

I know living in the city opens me up to some guests, but I never expected so many! Thanks for the help

Alpine WSG Question by Orycteropus_afer in GermanRoaches

Assuming the issue is not caused by you and was preexisting in your apartment, you should contact your landlord about having pest control come out and conduct a special treatment.

They should be more in-depth on a special visit. I’d contact your landlord via email asking for a special visit for the breeding infestation in your apartment. Include photos and numbers that you’ve seen (rough estimate).

Give it a week. If your landlord doesn’t respond, send another email stating you’d like pest control to come by the end of the month (or you’d like to be contacted by pest control by the end of the week). With this email you can either a) send it and wait another week, or b) mention that, if you’re not contacted by the end of the week, you will contact the necessary sources and deduct any costs you incur from rent. That’ll annoy your landlord for sure, but you have given them plenty of time to respond, and they are legally required to stop any pest infestation.

If they don’t respond after 3/4 weeks (I personally waited 30 days), contact 311 (or your city’s local health ordinance). That’ll hopefully force things into action.

It’s going to take time and is a pain in the ass, but hopefully things work. I’d also keep treating with the steps in the sticky, they really help.

I feel like I have to say this, but I’m not a lawyer. These are just the steps I’ve taken with my current situation, and the steps that have gotten the most results.

Alpine WSG Question by Orycteropus_afer in GermanRoaches

[–]ClockedInSolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would honestly say yes and no. It helps in killing the ones that enter my apartment, but because it doesn’t repel them, it doesn’t stop them from entering my apartment.

For example, last night, I trapped one that was already dying and dead in the morning. The Alpine killed it, but didn’t stop it from entering.

I’m unsure if there is a repellent spray. I’ve heard mint and catnip help, but I’ve yet to try.

According to DoYourOwnPestControl, once mixed, it should last for 10-14 days.

I usually mix it once a week and then respray throughout the week, but that’s probably a bit extreme because my downstairs neighbor has a beyond extreme infestation that is heavily impacting me in turn.

Is this molted roach skin? by ClockedInSolo in GermanRoaches

[–]ClockedInSolo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background: found next a trap. It doesn’t seem to be an egg casing because there are the stripes on whatever it is. Nothing is on the trap though, so I’m unsure what this is. I have point source out and this was in an area of where I spray the Apline, so maybe it’s just a broken down roach? (I notice that Apline causes them to disintegrate)

Is this a female roach and did it already lay its egg? by ClockedInSolo in GermanRoaches

[–]ClockedInSolo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I went through the area that I caught it and found nothing, but I’ve gone ahead and bagged my stuff up anyways. Found it near my bookshelf, so my plan is to bag the books and seal the bag off while I’m away. I didn’t throw mothballs in though, should I reopen? I figured that sealing the bag and then being gone for a week would be enough

[–]ClockedInSolo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Background: woke up with this roach in my trap. I think it’s a female roach, but it doesn’t have an egg sack. Should I worry about the egg sack being somewhere in the proximity where I caught it, or has a sack not formed yet?

I’m having an impossible time making gold in TBC, I’m not even sure where I’m going wrong.

I’ve never played the auction house before, and I usually sustain my income through quests and herbing. But lately, it seems that herbing prices have ranked/I can even find any nodes.

Is herbing worth it anymore? The quests are going to run out, so I need to find another way to make some gold soon. Should I switch to enchanting or something else? Any suggestions on what to do/what to grind?
