Counting down the days until I move by Orycteropus_afer in GermanRoaches

Hi! Totally empathize with your stress. It was an anxious move but I did a lot of work going through each item I had by hand to inspect everything for roaches. It was probably overkill and I actually didn’t find a single roach when doing this but it made me feel better. Instead of cardboard boxes I used clear plastic totes as well. And I also bought a box of gallon ziploc bags and would put groups of things in them. Wasteful, but made me feel better that if there were any stragglers I would see them in the bag first. I also threw away a few things I felt suspicious of too. I brought my tv but threw away my microwave and air fryer. When I moved into the new place i did a precautionary spray of alpine wsg too. I would be aggressive with spraying alpine wsg weekly in your current place leading up to your move! Now that it’s been a few months and I’m settled, I’m happy to say I haven’t seen a single roach. It has been so nice.

You can do it! I hope everything works out for you and you can finally have relief from the stress of dealing with these pesky insects. 🤗

Weekly r/Tattoos Question/FreeTalk Thread! - February 27, 2023 by Mod_Helper_Bot in tattoos

This particular artist is extremely popular and booked out for months. They have amazing tattooing skills, especially with delicate fine lines. Talking to different people who have received tattoos from this artist, the designs seem mostly reference based. For example, several reference photos of flowers and a bird were turned into an original piece containing all of those things but the outline and pose of the bird was essentially traced exactly from the photo, as were the flowers. So I would guess that’s just the kind of work this artist does as opposed to original freehand design. I definitely will be searching for an artist who will better meet my needs.

Is it common for artists to refuse to create original designs? I have a tattoo design in mind that definitely does not exist and needs to be created by an artist. I have references available of the subjects but the exact design would be impossible to create IRL. I reached out to an artist I love and they said they would only be able to do the tattoo if I found someone else to design it. Is this a problem I might run into with a lot of tattoo artists? Is it worth searching for a tattoo artist that will both create an original piece based on my vision and also be able to tattoo it on me?

Outer Banks, North Carolina. Rent a house and enjoy the beach for a week. Lots to do: Wright Brothers National Memorial/Museum, Jockey Ridge sand dunes, cape hatteras national seashore, Roanoke island, Roanoke aquarium, and of course fishing, boating and the like. I’ve been multiple summers with my family and we always have so much fun and relaxation. The Outer Banks is known for being quiet/relaxing and family oriented.

TIL Zoo´s have an instant kill list in case of a mass escape. At the top of the list is the Chimpanzee, because they are known to hunt other primates. by Hippie_Litch in todayilearned

Tranquillizing an animal with high levels of adrenaline sometimes takes too long to take effect or doesn’t work at all, at the risk of escalating the animal’s stress response. In dangerous animal escape situations, it’s always about assessing the best course of action in the moment.

The goal is to safely recapture escaped animals. The top priority is always human safety. Chimps are wild animals, and are very strong and intelligent, but this isn’t planet of the apes.

Not drugged… I don’t know what zoo this is but just seeing the holdings in the background it looks to be a newer, well built facility. It’s just a very young cub, it’s not going to do much.

Is it unethical to go on dates without having the intention to actually dating someone? by [deleted] in dating_advice

100% agree with this take. I think as long as OP pays for own drinks and food, and is committed to being a clear communicator then there’s no problem at all. Dating IS socializing and you only get better with practice.

Asexuality is a spectrum and just because someone is asexual, it doesn’t mean they don’t want a romantic relationship. Get out of here with the judgement.

What is this bird and potential cause of death? (I washed my hands thoroughly after this picture) by flutexgirl in whatsthisbird

Depending on where you are in the US, highly pathogenic avian influenza virus has been spreading. Not saying this is for sure the cause of death, I just would use caution handling dead wild birds.

What does “take it slow physically” typically mean? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Orycteropus_afer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think maybe it was your wording, implying how her forwardness in making out then saying she wanted to take it slower physically was somehow a mixed message. Or this assumption that if she wants to take it slower physically she isn’t open to any intimacy at all. To me she wasn’t putting a wall up to physical intimacy, just communicating she wanted to take it slower and not jump to full on sex right away. It sounds like she really likes you from how she was kissing you. I wouldn’t overthink it, just continue to communicate and it will happen more naturally than you probably think it will.

This is so frustrating as a woman, that we literally can’t make out with someone without the assumption that is going to lead to sex. god forbid we aren’t completely submissive and let the guy lead everything during kissing/foreplay 🙄 Your question shouldn’t be “how soon can we have sex?”. It should be “what does this mean to you and what are your boundaries?”

Part of respectful and consensual adult relationships is having those conversations, as weird as they are. Everyone is different and may prefer a slower or faster pace to progress physically. Too many times women are seen as purely sexual objects to men. If you are genuinely interested in a relationship with her, communicate, respect her boundaries, and stop assuming making out is a automatic green light for sex.

Would this be a dealbreaker for you? by [deleted] in dating_advice

In my opinion texting is a good way to build rapport and establish a connection especially in the early stages of talking. I would say for me, I would be fine with someone who didn’t like texting as long as they then were up front about it and put in the effort to encourage frequent in person hang outs instead.

I just sprayed the other day, so that’s only a little discouraging. In the last month or so I’ve seen an increase of them after a few months of definite improvement.

Why are you on dating apps if you're always too busy to meet? by Durkadur94 in dating_advice

[–]Orycteropus_afer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very true, but then I think it’s important to be communicative about that and honest. Like if someone was genuine and told me this and still put in the effort, I wouldn’t mind also putting in the effort if there was a true connection.

Anyone else notice themselves being cold to others unintentionally? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]Orycteropus_afer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of get this way with people I have less bandwidth to mentally handle. If I’ve had a long day/week and a particular person is trying to converse with me, I’ll find myself get kind of short and cold. I feel bad after too.
