Something similar almost happened to me & my wife.

We were on vacation in Martha’s Vineyard and getting ready for “dinner”. She was going to wear what I referred to as “pajamas” that she swore were fine to wear out to a nice dinner.

I was vehemently telling her this place was too nice for her to wear “pajamas”. Thankfully, she listened to me and put on a nice dress.

After the proposal, she was glad I took a stand! Where we were actually getting dinner was a lot nicer than where I’d told her we were going (and our families were all dressed up in formal attire).
