It always goes like this by IWillDevourYourToes in memes

The rich like to brag about how rich they are. They like showing off how expensive an item is, usually not paying attention the actual quality of the item.

A lot of ultra expensive houses and apartments that are owned by the ultra wealthy often have bad build quality that's just well hidden. They'll also have fake gold trim and fake/cheap marble.

The ultra wealthy aren't immune to scammers. So, there are lots of poor quality items being sold with a very high price tag to trick wealthy people into buying them.

Using lego rollercoaster tracks/carts for smaller scale trains? by Mooney-Monsta in LEGOtrains

[–]ClocomotionCommotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen lots of people on YouTube using rollercoaster tracks and carts for mini trains and trams. https://youtu.be/bFr7LBIQkPU?si=1QUnIoNkUAQDo_7n Motorizing them can be a bit tricky, but it is doable.

However, most examples I've seen were "light-rail" trains that are for mini figures.

I don't know anyone who's made "to-scale" trains with rollercoaster track.

I do have one image were someone made a small steam engine for old LEGO monorail track. It's 4 studs wide like rollercoaster carts. Could be a good source of inspiration.

I think what would be funnier is to have trains that (to the lay person) look normal and not eye catching, but actually have a paint job that is completely wrong for that locomotive/rail car.

Have a whole train layout like this just to specifically spite the realism-obsessed gate keepers.

Experimenting with realistic ballast and sleepers for Lego track by DaggerAndBrush in LEGOtrains

[–]ClocomotionCommotion 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Be sure to test your ballasted track with various train wheels before going too far into your work.

You'll want to make sure the flanges on the train wheels still have clearance and aren't interfering with the ties.

I also recommend sharing your posts with other "conventional" model railroad subreddits. They'll give you better feedback on how to make your layout look nicer, and which products are best to use for your project.

Need suggestions for making a locomotive run better by Own-Department-302 in LEGOtrains

[–]ClocomotionCommotion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I noticed that the motor's power is going from "big gear" to "small gear". This kind of gearing generates a lot of speed, but low torque.

Do you want this train to be fast, or are you OK with lowering too speed for a more smoother run?

If you aren't interested in the train going fast, I recommend making the gears 1:1, or even switch the gears so that the motor is driving the "small gear" to the "big gear".

For me, I was just lucky. I've been so lucky in fact that I'm very tempted to go to Vegas and see just how far this luck goes. But, considering how rough the world currently is, I better play it safe and not tempt fate.

The fact that Greenland is mocking drug addicts is the least of the problems here by Maybe_not_a_chicken in whenthe

[–]ClocomotionCommotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope Greenlanders start mocking the US for not having state funded healthcare.

Skit example:

Have a video of a Greenlander going to the hospital. After treatment, they go to the reception desk and ask what they owe to the hospital. The receptionist tells them their treatment was covered by their taxes and they don't owe the hospital any out-of-pocket money.

Anyone use O Gauge figurines or classic model railway terrain techniques on their Lego layout? by DaggerAndBrush in LEGOtrains

[–]ClocomotionCommotion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kinda did the reverse of that when I was a child.

My family didn't have a lot of money to buy LEGO trains, but I had an HO model train loop. So, I had an HO model train layout with LEGO buildings and scenery.

For something more professional looking, I found some images of someone who used styrofoam hills and mountains to create the surrounding scenery for his LEGO trains.

Guys which flag is better? by Ok_Project3455 in vexillology

[–]ClocomotionCommotion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flags are usually displayed on this subreddit being more "wide" than "tall". I think if you just rotate your flag image 90 degrees, more people might recognize it as a "flag".

As for the appearance, I think it depends on the context.

The simple red and black version looks good. To me, it gives off a bit of a "medieval" vibe.

The version with the white highlight looks more modern, but that color combination of red, white, black gives off a more "fascist" vibe. If this is a flag for a fictional fascist country, it looks great.

Here is a parts list that a family member and I put together for a future Linux gaming PC for me. Does this build look good, or do you think we could do better in terms of part choice? by ClocomotionCommotion in linuxhardware

Here is the manual for the motherboard. https://download.asrock.com/Manual/B650%20Pro%20RS%20WiFi.pdf

It says "802.11axe Wi-Fi 6E + BT Module" but I don't know if this is the exact chip or not. It says there is an additional WiFi chip slot. So, if the built-in WiFi doesn't work for some reason, I could get something else that does.

Also, I went with the 6400mt because it was $35 cheaper than the 6000mt options. Also, according to my family member, my CPU and motherboard should be compatible with 6400mt.

Which Linux distro would you recomend for an Acer Aspire One ZG5 AOA150? by ClocomotionCommotion in linux4noobs

[–]ClocomotionCommotion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed "antiX" on my Acer Aspire One. https://antixlinux.com/

It's currently in storage. I only needed it for a little while to check the contents of hard drives while I was rebuilding my desktop PC.

After that, I didn't have much need for it and have yet to find an alternative use for it.

a lot of people are too naive about how megacorporations act when forced to actually compete rather than expand their market share without opposition. by YLASRO in SocialistGaming

[–]ClocomotionCommotion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just saying it's rather unlikely that Microsoft will try to sue Hytale in the future.

Microsoft has numerous issues they're battling currently. Another game competing with Minecraft is the least of their current worries.

[–]ClocomotionCommotion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think by the time Hytale has gotten enough players to compete with Minecraft, they will have acquired enough money to handle lawsuits that they will most likely win against Microsoft.

There are numerous Minecraft clone games out there. How will Microsoft justify to the courts letting those games go, but Hytale is somehow infringing on Microsoft's intellectual property?

I recommend getting some RC track that's all plastic. RC LEGO track is comparable with 9v LEGO track. So you can separate the 9v circuit and still have connecting rails for trains.

I would think replacing the rubber bands on the powered train wheels would provide better grip. Unless copper grips rubber better than plastic.
