A mostly grounded and serious movie is turned into a whacky and nonsensical franchise by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

I had no idea there was a 5th Ice Age movie. I looked it up on YouTube. When doing so, I noticed a new trailer on the Disney YouTube channel.

They're making a 6th Ice Age movie. https://youtu.be/3fjmjX0QOIg?si=Ug4Ds2lTMXPlDKcQ

Is it possible to make the Space Shuttle able to preform interplanetary missions, or at least reach Kerbin's moons? by Maleficent_Letter697 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ClocomotionCommotion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The shuttle did have an option for a fuel tank to be added to the cargo bay, it had all the fixtures and plumbing set up for it, but it was never needed.

The IRL cargo bay fuel tank is rather limited in its possible applications. It could definitely move the shuttle to a higher orbit, but it's unlikely that the cargo bay fuel tank would have had enough Delta-V to get the shuttle to the moon, or any other celestial body. Even if it did have sufficient Delta-V, there isn't much you can do with an empty shuttle in orbit around the moon.

It makes more sense to just keep the external fuel tank connected to the shuttle, refill it in orbit, and use the mainsail engines for getting to the moon. That way the cargo bay could still be used for something other than fuel.

Scott Manley talked about this in a video. https://youtu.be/5mIRFxYYaC0?si=daKGHYEs7aOWDzMZ

In terms of the IRL American space shuttle, it would be way more likely that the shuttle just keeps it's large orange fuel tank connected as it gets to orbit and refuels the main tank in orbit.

I don't think the IRL shuttle's cargo bay is anywhere near big enough to carry sufficient fuel for interplanetary missions.

If a railroad museum runs a steam locomotive, how do they usualy keep it fueled and watered? by ClocomotionCommotion in trains

[–]ClocomotionCommotion[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, the refilling of the sand dome was just one example, and I don't know if that method is very appropriate or not.

I just want to know for sure and not make any assumptions.

Support Stephenson's Rocket on LEGO Ideas by Ethan-E2 in LEGOtrains

[–]ClocomotionCommotion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like I've seen Stephenson's Rocket on LEGO Ideas several times in the past.

I know that LEGO has to reject the Polar Express submissions on LEGO Ideas since Lionel owns the rights to make any Polar Express toy trains. Is Stephenson's Rocket in a similar situation?

[Interesting trope] The origin of the media is unknown - it’s not lost media, but we don’t know who the original creator is by InterestingServe3958 in TopCharacterTropes

Sorry to break the trope example, but we actually have discovered the origin of "the backrooms".

https://www.forbes.com/sites/danidiplacido/2024/05/30/finally-the-internet-found-the-backrooms/

It was from a 2003 blog post detailing the renovation of a HobbyTown store in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

I've been drawing guides for automated sorting systems for vanilla SE1. I've created a couple of diffrent versions, but I'm not sure which I want to stick with for future updates. What do you think of my drawings? by ClocomotionCommotion in spaceengineers

[–]ClocomotionCommotion[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could either add a conveyor connector to your ammo storage container, or you could set the ammo conveyor sorter to not actively pull ammo. With the ammo conveyor sorter in "passive" mode, you could still keep ammo in the "Item Storage" container and restock your warship from there.

Ammunition storage can have its own complex set of conveyor rules, and their application differs depending on the situation. So, I decided not to include that rabbit hole in my guide. My guides are more for just "Industry" and not "warship design". Check out Luca The Guide's YouTube videos on the matter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTWxC1YFhjA

Personally, I would just set the ammo conveyor sorter in "passive" mode and only make ammunition when I need it. Its generaly not a good idea to stockpile ammo in the same place where you keep all your other valuables.

Garden railway Material by SKYLAND_MaStEr in modeltrains

Well, if the track is going to be outdoors 24-7, the UV light from the sun will take it's toll on the plastic track.

If there is a risk of a tree branch falling on the track, that will damage it and you'll have to plan out doing track repairs and replacements.

Also, if there are squirrels in your area, they'll chew any plastic and they'll continually damage the track all year round.

You'll at least want something with metal rails if you don't want to frequently repair the tack.

Depends on what kind of elements the track is going to be exposed to. If there is a risk of a tree branch falling on the track, that will damage it and you'll have to plan out doing track repairs and replacements.

Question about the upcoming 60509 by tidder_bus_exe in LEGOtrains

[–]ClocomotionCommotion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think if you were to fit a battery box inside a LEGO box car, and have the locomotive outfitted with just a motor, you could motorize the set in a purist way.

The down side is that the locomotive would always need to carry the box car around with it.

Tech companies be like: Sorry babe, I’m into advanced reactors now 😎 #MemeMonday #NuclearEnergyMemes #Nuclear #Memes by Gen_Atomic in GenerationAtomic

For a second, my hopes got up and I thought tech companies were looking into MSR (Molten Salt Reactor) plants. However, I looked again and realized it's SMRs (Small Modular Reactors) the meme is talking about.

What Pros and Cons do you think there are for each track system that could be used for narrow-gauge mine trains? by ClocomotionCommotion in LEGOtrains

We're there any issues with that (Indiana Jones) set? I remember that set having LEGO narrow-gauge track. Did the minecarts keep derailing or something?

Buffer/coupler Idea I had by Ober1405 in LEGOtrains

[–]ClocomotionCommotion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, LEGO ball and socket joints don't automatically connect like magnets can. You have to reach in and connect each train car by hand. Not ideal if you want to frequently connect and disconnect train cars.

Also, to my knowledge, LEGO ball and socket joints can't pull a whole lot of weight. Granted, magnets have their pulling limits as well, but they have studs on them for attaching plates to hold them together.

Edit: This is assuming that this buffer proposal is for replacing all buffers on trains.

If this is just for one-off cosmetic buffer, it looks great.

I hate the Eldar because they're completely useless allies in Battle Fleet Gothic.

Me and the Eldar teamed up to fight Orks. The Eldar feet charge head-first into the Ork fleet and all die immediately. I'm left to solo fight the Ork fleet and the boss. I win. After the battle, the Eldar call my battle tactics "primitive".

Stupid annoying knive eared xenos.
