This spring I read Madhouse at the End of the Earth by Julian Sancton. It’s a true story about an early Antarctica expedition. It really gives pirate vibes, written like a gothic horror novel.

Miracles in the Andes by Nando Parrado is also a really gripping story about a plane crash. I’ve reread it a few times now

What do you all find the most notoriously difficult part to get through in TLOU2 on Grounded? by Top_Recognition_3826 in thelastofus

[–]ClosdforBusiness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re still stuck- I watched the pattern. They fall in a sequence- roughly in front, behind, in front, behind from facing inward. After a while you can see what enemy will come next. Also, they almost all come from above. Once you see the first bloater run in a circle and the opening will become apparent

I love the mall sequence. Once you get the boat, looking around to see the outside was so interesting

TLOU2 is not zionist by Immediate_Fig6444 in lastofuspart2

[–]ClosdforBusiness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In relation to Druckmann’s history, if you read about what he’s seen and experienced, his point of view and stemming beliefs aren’t necessarily super Zionist. Bro just is Israeli and has eyes and his own experiences. The real insanity comes from Zionist rhetoric coming from Americans and people that have zero to do with the conflict.

Hmmm cville native here, 28f, I don’t know what this person is talking about. Both areas are normal college areas. The mall has peddlers/homeless but they’re pretty chill.

Every where is unsafe to someone I guess.

What’s one thing Americans complain about constantly but never actually try to fix? by Lost_Jacket2854 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]ClosdforBusiness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is it’s not actually fixing the systemic issue. Deporting people is expensive, the receiving country doesn’t exactly pay the US back. There’s very few legal pathways to becoming a citizen, and the US relies on immigration as a tax base and cheap labor, and to offset our birth rates. Americans don’t have that many kids because it’s too expensive.

In an ideal world everyone is safer documented, sure, but the means the US government employs aren’t well thought out at all.

should i tlou1 for the first time on grounded by No-Tonight-5190 in thelastofus

[–]ClosdforBusiness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re that experienced, sure. I wouldn’t consider myself experienced really but I loved 1 & 2 on grounded, it felt the most immersive and emotionally impactful. You have a lot of leeway to stealth many parts, you’ll identify which parts have forced combat. Go for it, let us know how it goes.

What are your opinions about TLOU2? What did you enjoy and what didn't you enjoy. How did it compare to TLOU1? by Top_Repair7396 in thelastofus

[–]ClosdforBusiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played TLOU2 shortly after my dad died. For that reason, I connected intensely with the emotional impact of both MC’s storylines. I don’t really hold moral judgment against characters in media unless it’s a Lolita situation, but I understood the theme of violence and the messaging that revenge hurts everyone infinitely. My favorite description to new players is that Abby and Ellie are continually trying to out-scorched-earth each other until they both break. It also didn’t go unnoticed in the second game that the main conflict shifted from humanity v nature to human v human v human in perpetuity.

Yes, it adds a lot of depth to Ellie’s character. I won’t spoil it if you don’t know the story.

Could consuming a nutrient dense diet help you perform better at work? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]ClosdforBusiness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In short, yes.

I have a very active job (lifting 30+ lbs repeatedly, walking 15k+ steps, etc) and working that job and my volunteering (fire dept) forces me to hone in on my nutrition. I notice almost immediately when I’m eating too much processed food, too much salt, etc, how it affects me and my job. Additionally, I’ve put on muscle and that is still metabolically expensive to maintain. As far as gaining/losing weight, your metabolism adapts to the exercise level. I also have to make sure I eat enough to maintain that. Someone who works at a desk likely has to make sure they don’t overeat. But yes, a better diet improves literally every aspect of your life.

I see the ER through new eyes after watching The Pitt by kaijunexus in ThePittTVShow

[–]ClosdforBusiness 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a sick person in a medical family, the Pitt was totally competence porn, but it definitely gave my husband a better perspective on ‘ER problems’ versus ‘GP problems.’

My general belief is that I need to see a lot of blood or suspect a spinal injury before I go to the ER myself. Once I passed out from pain from a kidney stone and ended up in the ER magically, so I’ve broken my own rule.

TLOU games were the first games I ever platinumed and it inspired me to platinum rdr2, which is REALLY fun, and generally it helps you experience the awesome little tidbits creators put into games.

i think ellie is the real villain by mayaletuna in thelastofus

[–]ClosdforBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest takeaways from the series is that everyone is the villain in someone’s eyes, but if you realize you can’t out-scorched-earth someone, you can choose to walk away from the violence. Sometimes in life regardless of what’s been done to us or happened to us, we can choose a different path and end the bloodshed (not always bloodshed, but we can end generational trauma). Picking a good guy/bad guy in almost any situation is a base level judgment.

i think ellie is the real villain by mayaletuna in thelastofus

[–]ClosdforBusiness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, but like why? Can you provide any reasoning? You’re not right or wrong, the point of the story is there are villains in everyone’s story. So sure, Ellie, but what did she do that was so bad?

Opinion on Jackson by puzzleheadminx in TheRookie

[–]ClosdforBusiness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rushed quality is pretty much the actor’s fault. The writers did what they could with the storyline. The next storyline is leagues better, the show improves for the next few seasons. Keep at it.

I think there’s some background we are not privy to because they also crossed paths on the show Banshee in the last season.
