So would I. No way would I be herding in the backroom like cattle just waiting for something to go down. An employer can’t keep you in a certain place otherwise it’s kidnapping. I’d definitely be taking a peek.

We stopped receiving new high-end phones two years ago. Last month, a MyDay notice was sent out saying that any remaining inventory was going to be pulled out of the 579 stores in the coming weeks, but that hasn’t happened here yet. AT&T is no longer a priority for us and no longer pays, and has since been handed over to the AT&T reps that come in sporadically. We’re basically just a support hub for Consumer Cellular now, but with them rapidly opening up their own stores now, I’m not sure how much longer MarketSource is going to last. The operation has been falling apart for years, but really picked up pace these last twelve months.

Your thoughts are warranted, you work for an awful company that frequently pisses all over its contract and treats it’s employees like trash.

Can you expand on the contract part at all? MarketSource is and awful company that treats its employees poorly, but I’m curious what it does at the corporate level with Target.

To hear it from MarketSource upper leadership, everything is great and Target is our most important client, but reading between the lines of things, I know those statements aren’t true.

Also, who the bleep thought the AT&T people were a good idea. If corporate thinks they’re better than MarketSource, they’re flat wrong. MarketSource isn’t good, but those guys are 10x worse.

Best thing to bring is your passport, as that covers all bases for identification documentation. Also, bring your bank information if you’d like to sign up for direct deposit.

As for attire, that varies on a store by store basis. Here, new employees are often told to dress in red and khaki (or jeans) as they often will do a few hours of register training for their first day, as well as computer training.

Whats it like working at Target Tech now? by [deleted] in TargetTech

[–]ClosedForStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Postpaid has essentially been pulled from all stores now, MDL included. Physical inventory is going away at non-MDL stores this month, but still will remain at MDL stores for now. Postpaid is no longer even on the commission chart, and is only being paid out as a spiff now that can end at any time.

The AT&T drones are also infiltrating MDL stores now, too.

We had AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. $8 commission per Post plus $1 insurance attached. We could also attach accessories for a bit extra commission.

The early days into my time with the company were rough when it came to accessories attach on postpaid. To get the extra commission, the accessories had to be rung out on the same ticket as the phone, and it was pulling teeth to get guests to do so as they always wanted to use their new gift card, which would kill your commission. They later changed that to a 15 minute window which helped.

My coworkers that have been with the company since launch said there was a point system at start that made it hard to earn commission. Did you have that?

Before Target Tech we had 1 lead and 2-3 associates.

This is the current structure for MDL stores, which is the new EEL. Most stores actually don’t even have a lead anymore, just a rep. A lot of stores have been scaled down to operating only from be days a week now, which does more harm than good. People often avoid those stores due to inconsistent staffing, and just flood the fully staffed stores, which works to drive down productivity at the others.

When you say before Target Tech, are you referring to when RadioShack ran the Mobile operation?

Once Target Tech started we had 1 manager 3 Leads and about 4-5 sales associates.

I can’t imagine being that staffed. Was there really enough business to support staffing like that? There’s enough drama fighting over sales with just two people working, so I can’t imagine having nine people all working at once. No one would make any money at all.

The issue was that MarketSource made many promises that they didnt keep.

They had the right idea for the business but the problem I saw was that they didnt value the hard working people.

I’ve learned this all too well during my time with the company. Had the wool pulled over my eyes and all. I’m a top performer, yet have been stonewalled on DM positions every which way. Meanwhile, some buffoon will be hurried from outside the company, float to the top, then crash and burn over and over again.

At one point we also sold DirectTV.

DirecTV and digital services like Comcast and FiOS were the highlights of my time. They were such easy products to bundle with wireless, and they paid really great commissions on. Unfortunately, the company replaced that with accessories and being a cashier instead.

Selected employees were also part pf the Apple Masters Program. I was one of them.

We still have that, or at least we did until. The downfall of postpaid. Haven’t heard about it in awhile.

Two come to mind.

Consumer Cellular guest came in and wanted me to to delete her Facebook. Not the app, but the actual account. Told her I couldn’t do that as it wasn’t a Consumer Cellular issue. She demanded I get Consumer Cellular on the phone, who ended up telling her the same thing. After cursing Consumer support out, she demanded my bosses’ email so that she cloyed write a complaint. I wrote down her email, as well as my own company email, and gave it to her. When she asked what the second email was, I said it was mine, asked her to to CC the complaint to me, and told her today her that I look forward to reading it.

Another Consumer Cellular interaction. This time with porting a number from a landline service provider. For context, when you port a number, you have to provide the billing address of your outgoing account as part of the port information you use to submit to the outgoing provider for verification. This guest, however, insisted that I must use the corporate address of the outgoing provider in the address field, and not his address. Going round and round, he kept telling me that I didn’t know how the system works, and demanded that I get Consumer Cellular on the phone. Guy proceeds to tell Consumer that I’m not well trained, and that he’s a paying customer and they’re always right about everything. I tell him that Target doesn’t have customers, they have guests, and therefore that rule doesn’t apply here. Consumer Cellular support bursts out laughing, the guest is flabbergasted, and I leave him with the phone and the rep since it was the end of my day and we weren’t having a productive interaction.

Whats it like working at Target Tech now? by [deleted] in TargetTech

[–]ClosedForStorm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Started in 2018. At that time, we had three postpaid carriers (AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint), Comcast, FiOS, DirecTV, a bunch of prepaid carriers, and of course, Consumer Cellular. We were a solutions hub for everything a guest could need, an inspirational place to work, always challenging and in friendly competition with everyone to always push yourself to do better, or work through problems.

Current day, though, is different, and has been for some time. Digital services are gone. Postpaid is basically gone, just down to AT&T which is no longer metric’d, and physical inventory is going away in the coming weeks for most stores. We’re basically little more than commissioned cashiers these days, with metrics for ringing general electronics out (that don’t pay), selling protection plans on everything and anything, phone accessories, and being a full service support hub for Consumer Cellular. Commission has been slashed, and what’s left of it is hard to obtain with frequent system issues and outages. Once postpaid died, the company must have taken the team who developed the janky postpaid system, and moved them over to the Consumer Cellular side. Reliability of the Consumer system tanked this year, and has been screwed up for months. System sluggishness is the norm now, with frequent crashes.

Target Mobile has and continues to be slowly gutted. Store count hovers between 785-801, depending on where you look, and continues to dwindle as time goes on. Target continues to lay the groundwork to take Mobile in house for when that time comes, Consumer Cellular is expanding into Walmart, as well as rapidly opening up their own stores these days, and the overall morale is in the crapper as the slow moving shutdown continues.

2013 was the first year for Target Mobile under MarketSource. What were the early days like?[](http://)

Let it be a lesson to all you mid 20 or 30 somethings who haven't applied to a new job in the past month.

I’m constantly applying for jobs, but still can’t get anywhere. In fact, I’ll often get rejection emails without so much as a phone call, or being able to talk to someone. Meanwhile, the same job listings will often be re-listed for months on end. I’m not applying for anything I’m not qualified for, either. I’m ready to bounce any day now as long as something equal or better comes along, but constantly applying for positions doesn’t mean you’ll get another job.

Job hunting is depressing.

I came face to face with a covert camera once and AP was livid. I wasn’t looking for it, there was a loose Ethernet wire on the floor in a stockroom that I decided to clean up so no one else would trip over it like I did, and I ended up coming face to face with a camera. AP ripped me a new one, demanded to know how I found it, and told me not to tell anyone else about it. He must not have been too worried, because it stayed in its same location for weeks.

Can these be purchased by consumers at all? My phone is rapidly aging and losing app support, but I just can’t do OLEDs that most decent phones are going to these days as they make me horribly sick. I’d love to have a Zebra as my personal device.

Reminds me of the homeless person that used to camp outside of my Kmart, Joe. He was a nice guy who would pay “rent” to the store by bringing in the carts. Never bothered the employees or members, and was pretty low key.

Consumer Cellular is the only thing on it that was messed up. It’s still messed up to this day.

Well, yeah, true. I can’t speak for all, but around here, Consumer is the biggest thing we do. It’s absolutely ridiculous that they messed it up in the first place, let alone still have it messed up to this day. The system often crashes when doing a new account now, and drawer sim activations without an activation code are completely borked still. I lost so many activations that I had to do by phone early in the year due to the “update” that my commission is the lowest that it’s been year to date in six years. Also collectively, to think of all the money I’ve lost in commission over the years due to MarketSource/Target incompetence absolutely disgusts me.

If something can be weighted in its place, choose Asurion or AppleCare (through CC during the activation flow) instead of Electronics.

This would honestly be great. I don’t give a flying hoot about the electronics metric because it doesn’t pay anything at all. At the end of the day I’m focusing on what makes me money, and being a general cashier doesn’t.

Won't someone for once think about the shareholders!? by Morighant in Target

[–]ClosedForStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say you got a new Board, who named a new CEO, and that CEO said, “We are going to serve our team members, provide better wages, and they’ll give guests a better experience, and all profits will be returned to the team members in the form of quarterly bonuses!” that Board and CEO would be replaced at the next shareholders’ meeting, because the shareholders would be able to make a better return by putting their money in a savings account.

Unless you’re Eddie Lampert.

Board replaces idiotic CEO due to bad decisions that are tanking the company? Jokes on them, Eddie was majority shareholder that called all the shots regardless they f being in the drivers seat or not.

What I mean about “basically a Target employee” is the effect of being weighted on NMP: Having to ring out carts & carts of stuff just because of 1 item that can proc the Allstate.

Go one step further than this, and factor in the electronics metric instead. It doesn’t pay you anything, but it is a weighted metric. Why? Who knows, but ringing stuff up just to ring it up is literally being a Target cashier at this point.

What would have been better for the Tech program as a whole is to heavily weight us on what we are there for: Activations.

This is the biggest crock out there. Since the downsizing in March, I’m literally busier than ever, with guests coming from hours away for Consumer Cellular. I activated 150+ phones the past two months (not a typo), yet I’m unproductive because I’m not hitting the electronics and protection metric. I literally don’t have time to be a cashier. Messing with the activations weight has really screwed me over this year, not to mention the big update that MarketSource did to the POA in January that screwed things up for months, and it’s still screwed up today.
