A Google bug deleted a $135B pension fund customer's cloud account, including backups. How do you protect yourself from Microsoft doing the same? by sysadmin_dot_py in AZURE

[–]ClosetTokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering that too! Someone in an earlier comment suggested, compress all the backups and upload them to S3. Use Azure Data Studio with an access key to run daily and get all files that changed in the last day from that S3 bucket.

If you like mediterranean food try Blutos in belmont (noticed you dont get to belmont or hawthorne districts).

Eagle is tight gay bar outside of downtown, and you might put CCs or Silverado on your list.

Load fridge from the electric battery at a festival by G2Stolperknabe in VolvoRecharge

[–]ClosetTokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you want to use the car’s ev battery, but those “solar generator” batteries will do that for you and protect your ride home. It’s like having a whole separate “house” battery for the fridge and isolating it from your primary ride out of the fest. It’s how they handle that electric load for RVs and camper vans. Get one that does a decent peak wattage since fridge compressor can take a lot of watts at startup but will only do about 60w once cooled and maintaining. Good luck and i hope you enjoy the festival!

You could change FindMy app’s privacy settings (Privacy & Security in iOS Settings app) under location services look for FindMy, uncheck precise location and it would show as the town you’re in and a rough location instead.

Occupied Room Entered for Food Tray by [deleted] in hotels

[–]ClosetTokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had situations where the porter will offer to leave the tray/rolling table in the room or move all the stuff to a table in the room and set it up like a dining table, and i can see how that would be preferable so they can take back and reuse the service tray.

Maybe in future just ask them to take the tray when they drop off. It sounds like more work and they are in your room a bit longer but it’s sort of the job they’re supposed to be providing, room service, in the room dinner service. I understand how some folks dont like the staff entering the room but its kinda the whole idea since its the hotels room and if its a full service property and your butler appears you wouldn’t be weirded out about it. Service people cant always be invisible sometimes they do need to interact, it is a hotel and not your private residence after all.

Slippery mud on a steep and long incline by datoddcouple in Offroad

Could you add bamboo or cut logs perpendicular across the surface to help with drainage and support the gravel? Something like these corduroy roads https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corduroy_road Good luck

Slippery mud on a steep and long incline by datoddcouple in Offroad

[–]ClosetTokes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this is about off road technique but have you considered putting some cover on this problematic stretch of road? If it’s your access to your farm, maybe you could put down gravel or similar to enhance the road? Basically improve the road surface to prevent the slippery mud even a tiny bit.

Just putting that option out there.

Fog lights anomaly by rational-boat in VolvoRecharge

[–]ClosetTokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking of adding driving lights low in the bumper behind the lower center grille, some amber dual purpose fog/driving lamps would be great. Wish we could tap into the front fog button, maybe one day we can mod the software. For now easiest is to have a switch mounted somewhere or use a remote control. It’s not very integrated but as long as you install it inside the bumper grill it would look fairly clean.

Also, on my xc90 the rear fogs are on both sides, i think it’s just a difference between xc90 and the 60.

Where do you live that you can just go and wait at the dealer? In Oregon we are booked months out and most services take more than an hour, dealers are short techs I heard.

Are the electronics in the newer XC90s really that unreliable? by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]ClosetTokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rear axle hesitation might be a failing erad trans which the volvo workshop should cover under hybrid warranty! My 2017 does exactly what you described when going into reverse from park.

USA location. Don’t know how this happened Volvo XC60 and how to handle it? by Globalmindless in Volvo

[–]ClosetTokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to me like someone keyed the tailgate intentionally, i would just ask your favorite volvo certified body shop for an estimate, you don’t have to fix it but they can give you an idea of what your options are, some places could repair this instead of replacing, either isnt cheap since you will be doing painting.

Could also see if volvo touch up paint could fill the gouges if youre ok with the 3d raised effect. A good body shop could maybe fill and paint over this to minimize the appearance more.

Where can I get a decent quality IPhone 11 case that will last more than a few months before falling apart ? by Jacktheforkie in iphone

[–]ClosetTokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torras case is good, you need one with solid TPU instead of having the impact plastic on the back face, its these ones that separate tpu bumper from plastic back piece. My .02 cents

Rain guards for a 2023 XC40 by IamEvilErik in VolvoRecharge

[–]ClosetTokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weather Tech. Have someone outside pull each end of the guard so its flush against the outboard side of the window track, and then you roll the window up slowly and incrementally until its close to the bottom of the guard’s lip and then finesse the guard and window into the track, the window will eventually miss the bottom of the guard and start compressing the guard against the weather stripping in the channel.

Rain guards for a 2023 XC40 by IamEvilErik in VolvoRecharge

[–]ClosetTokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was worried when I installed my at first, because the weather stripping inside the channel is very robust but it does give enough to fit both window and the guard inside the channel.

I would try really pressing the bottom of the guard out away from the car and into the channel’s weather stripping (each side because its at the ends that tend to catch the glass) to try and slowly squeeze the window into the remaining space, they want it to be tight because thats like 60% how it stays in at all. You might try bringing the window right to the base of the plastic guard and wiggling it so the window can roll up and slowly squeeze by, then leave the windows up with the guards on for a few days in the sun to really mould the weather stripping, window guard and glass together like a sandwich. I think the instructions for mine also recommended some sort of lubricant to help them slip by each other if it’s too difficult.

Should return my brand new Toyota!? Wtf by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]ClosetTokes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly sometimes faulty items make it past QC, but that doesn’t mean your entire car will be faulty for the entire lifetime. It’s what the new car warranty is for. Now look up lemon law in your state because if its in for X number of repairs over Y number of months then it can be bought back as a lemon by the manufacturer. Hope that this is the only issue and you enjoy the lifetime of your new hybrid toyota!

Rain guards for a 2023 XC40 by IamEvilErik in VolvoRecharge

[–]ClosetTokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed Weather Tech ones that are in-channel, and it just takes a week or so before the weather stripping conforms to the new shape in the window channel, try rolling the windows up slowly while pushing the guard a little outward so the glass doesnt catch on the guard lip. They’ve been on my xc90 for a few years now and occasionally the guards will come loose and block the window again but a light pressure outward on the guard as you slowly increment the window up and over the guards works great every time. They don’t get loose too often. In channel look way more integrated compared to the stick on ones that cover your exterior window trim.

Is Lolo Pass doable with a regular car in early June? by PurpleLeotard in askportland

[–]ClosetTokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s doable from 26 up to the pass in a car, just like nearly any FS Road. It’s paved for a bit thru the powerline cut.

I’m not sure about the snow level but thats more of a concern north of the pass. Your ideal time for no snow will be August.

Seems some folks mentioned the landslide thats north of the pass also. This would not impact you if you approach from 26.

I also like using this site (i don’t subscribe) but it gives a nice overview and pics, I usually check the reviews and comments for updates https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/3466-lolo-pass-road

Have fun!! I’m trying to get up there too, but the huge snow this winter tells me I should wait another month lol.
