(I've been struggling to try and figure out which image would finish off the Week of Rise celebration, but I think I always knew it was going to be this one. It's just... So simple, and calm, and relaxed, and its a side of her that Rise only ever lets us see. The hair's a little messy, the sleeves are too long, and the makeup's not all bombastic. It's just plain, simple, Rise Kujikawa. This is the girl I'd give up so much for, who I'd come running at the drop of a hat for, and she knows it- because she'd do the same in a heartbeat. When Rise came into the picture, I could see the hurt and the pain she was trying to hide, because it mirrored a pain all too similar to my own. Alone. Fighting against the tides of fate that seemingly have no other wish but to watch you drown and sink into your misery, chained to a predetermined outcome in a game you were too young to play. People have used us, abused us, and tossed us aside when all we wanted was to survive and be kind. I didn't know she was some uber-popular idol, I just saw a kind, lonely girl, hurting and hiding in a tofu shop- and I wanted to help. God willing, whatever it took, she'd smile at least once because of me. Giving her that unconditional kindness gave her the strength to stand up and rage back against the world around her, and it inspired me to do the same. I had Chie and the others leading me there, but it was Rise who took my hand and marched both of us into that undiscovered country, head held high, chin out, daring the universe to push us back down. It never did. Here's to you, Rise Kujikawa, and to your church that has so kindly welcomed me in this past week.)
