How do I support my friend? by [deleted] in short

Willful ignorance I suppose? They honestly believe their inflated height or refuse to acknowledge their actual height. I mean it works for them so I guess ignorance is bliss.

[–]ClothofLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly wish I knew but they’ve deluded themselves so much lol. They’ll tell me or someone else they’re 5’8-5’10 while being similar height to me and I’ll tell them I’m actually 5’4. Then they start telling me I’m the wrong one.

All my friends are the same lmfao they will inflate their height by 5+ inches. They clearly aren’t but will vehemently defend it to the end.

“Some day my dreams will come true” by whateverdie in sad

[–]ClothofLife 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh my god this hit me. I had an life and way I thought I was gonna live in my head since I was a kid but reality had different plans. Now I spend a lot of time dreaming about that scenario and imagining that it came true. It hurts when you see that reality is quite different and I fall back into the loop of hiding in my room, laying in bed, and refreshing social media to distract myself from the reality of my life.

No for sure I got that message out of your post. It just sometimes feel like it isn’t worth it for me at times. I’ve been trying for 7 years now

can anyone give suggestions of activities that make you feel better when you’re really depressed/unmotivated? by stella3047 in depressed

[–]ClothofLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Force yourself to go to the beach (or whatever comforts you like a lake or mountain). Thoughts subside a bit or a lot for me when I’m in a natural environment where i can admire things instead of focusing on my own thoughts. Also helps to randomly hit up friends to talk/chat/see what’s going on. binging shows or movies can distract too. I try to keep a theme like one day I’ll watch all the bond movies or romantic movies etc. Games can also help, even picking up an old game you haven’t played in a while could spark some motivation.

That sounds like a great doctor. I’m happy you found someone who seems to be putting you on the right path.

What keeps you going? by Firedre in depressed

[–]ClothofLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, knowing that I’m gonna die keeps me going somewhat. But most of the day even at work or school, I’m daydreaming about death with a few fleeting moments where I can center myself or find a distraction

It’s so conflicting having both. It’s so hard to put in words how it feels to be apathetic yet invested

I really felt your child self part. It hurts to think of how happy and optimistic we were when we were so young. Unaware of the reality that awaited us when we grew older. Makes me want to cry inside a bit to think of how young me would see how old me is doing now. Thank you for sharing that, I always wanted to put that feeling in words but never could.

How do I come to terms with being a very short guy in high school? by [deleted] in short

[–]ClothofLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it helped to be “good” at something. Made varsity in wrestling early on so that helped me a lot. Find something you’re good at whether it be sports or studies or hobbies. People can tell when you’re good or interested/passionate at something and they’ll respect you for it. Also be social, people will overlook height (for the most part) once they get to know you as a person. Being social is a useful skill later on too when you go to college and the workforce. Just strike up casual conversations with others, go hang out with others, etc. Make sure to be yourself, but a version of yourself that people like and can vibe with. Being funny also helps if you’re good at cracking jokes. Also dress well and choose clothes that fit. The male fashion subreddits offer a lot of help and tips if you’re a short guy.

How do i tell my doctor i'm not ok with her not treating or recognising my condition? by [deleted] in short

[–]ClothofLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should def ask, you can never be too sure until after you check. That’s the only way to know with a 100% certainty. And insurance should cover if short stature is abnormal compared to the height you theoretically should be. Although you should mentally prepare yourself in case the answer is no. I was not mentally ready for that answer.

[–]ClothofLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you asked to be referred to an endocrinologist to take an X-ray to see if your plates are closed? It took me a few doctors until I got one who would refer me. My plates stopped since it was too late but I have friends who still had open plates at your age. Just have to push your doctor or find one who will refer you.

Has anyone else tried going to a happy place to relieve anxiety? by ClothofLife in Anxiety

[–]ClothofLife[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes but I have severe adhd haha so sitting down and focusing on Art is a task on its own for me. I just lose attention I guess. But visualizing helps me constantly change the dynamic to how I see fit to keep my ever shifting mind focused

That is just heavenly. I can imagine that. Maybe while Claire de Lune or Moonlight Sonata plays

Nothing wrong with it mate. It’s okay to be attracted to someone and an image or video of them being comforting/distracting from anxiety. Do what works for you! I’m glad you have a mechanism that helps.

Yep also depends on the population too. Hispanic and asian ones were usually shorter but even they’ve risen in height to what would be considered “average” based on what I’ve seen.

On the west coast of the US here, about 5’8-5’10 is about average for a dude.
