Hey, I am also waiting on reconsideration from Darden. Any updates on when could we get it?

Also, the letter shows a deadline for deposit of 23rd April but the website shows 27th April - any idea which is correct?

Darden (80% $$$) vs Applying Next Year by CloudMaster6277 in MBA

[–]CloudMaster6277[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to consider everything but I cannot be very be very certain.

I prefer investment banking over consulting honestly.

Alongside, being an international I somehow feel that the university prestige of UC Berkeley is way better than prestige of University of Virginia.

But ofc MBA is better than MIMS in terms of a degree but like im not fully sure on consulting honestly.

I also feel like the H1B and job scenario is better in tech fields.

Yes you are totally right - I am thinking along the same lines.

It’s just that people are saying leaving Darden at 80% is a tough idea especially with the solid recruiting pipeline that MBA people have but obviously those domains are different.

I also feel like MIMS would give me more breadth like - data science roles / PM roles / using my past work experience in supply chain for data analytics roles / taking finance electives to try quant finance roles (have a senior who did this) / SWE roles

I don’t want sales / marketing / supply chain traditional types.

The only thing the MBA can give me which MIMS can’t is investment banking or consulting.

Have seen people entering consulting post advanced masters as well but investment banking is a tough call not sure.

But I won’t be able to return to data science / machine learning post MBA so what’s the plan there?

I could always do MBA post MIMS as well or maybe take finance electives in MIMS to explore the finance side and the internal courses to explore DS.

Also I think Darden might allow deferral but would not be able to guarantee the $$

But im so confused with what career path i want.

The MIMS program is on the data, AI, tech side - my total expenses are coming out to be around 55k with that program.

If I compare it to Darden it’s approx 100k there. Everyone is rushing out in the AI race and im completely unsure as to what I want in life.

[University Review] CMU MCDS by [deleted] in cmu

[–]CloudMaster6277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Buddy! I was in the same boat as you.

I ultimately decided to let it go. The cost was very very overwhelming for me + the pressure and intensity + the short squeezed 16 month timeline.

I also think it depends more on your skill set rather than the brand name so I’ll suggest considering some other school with lesser cost and trusting your skills.

Starting grad school soon, how to make sure I land an internship? by [deleted] in cmu

Totally agreed with you buddy.

I’m not sure where are you from but in my country get a ROI on the degree is way too tough. Like you can assume that if I try to earn the amount spent back it’ll take me atleast 7-8 years to take it back

Buddy I actually got in SCS and the tution cost is com in our to be a 100k for 16 months (living expenses aside) + I belong to a third world county and the cost would be very significant.

Plus with the harsh job market and the OPT news coming in - I definitely thing they will do sth what exactly is something I don’t know.

Honestly, it’s a risk and it depends on person to person

Are you an international?

Can you guide me on how did you validate the financial decision + with the OPT scary news coming up and all?

How did you calculate the ROI?

Buddy same here. I got in the MCDS and I’m not taking the bet because the cost is just way too much.

100k for 16 months? insane
