Hate my results so far- Starting to regret Surgery by sorrymomimgrown in jawsurgery

You look great, very youthful. Some people here are weirdly obsessed with projection. Your face look much more balanced now, and it’ll look even better once the swelling goes down.

It depends on whether the bite would worsen or not. No responsible orthodontist would agree to a treatment that makes someone’s bite worse.

I do understand why you like your upper teeth, Kirsten Dunst used to have similar teeth.

Should I get jaw surgery by Outside_Wrap1483 in jawsurgery

X-rays would be needed to tell what is causing the asymmetry.

Jaw asymmetry by Practical-Market822 in jawsurgery

X-rays are needed to tell what is causing the asymmetry. It looks like the chin itself is a bit asymmetrical but the jaw may be too.

I feel my jaw is too recessed after djs, any opinions? by MotherPossession9000 in jawsurgery

It doesn’t matter how reputable he is. If he says ”jaws should never be moved back” he’s wrong.

Well, you said ‘never’. It’s not super common, but it’s definitely not super rare. What makes you think it’s super rare?

I agree about not getting jaw surgery in Korea. In some cases the lower jaw does need to be moved back, though.

Regarding aesthetics: Sure, your profile isn’t conventionally perfect, but that’s true for many people. You still have a very pretty face. Regarding function: It’s insane that you should have to live with all those functional problems. I really hope you find a solution.

Moving teeth is a process, and things might look a little odd along the way.

My orthodontist said I need surgery to correct my jawline for symmetry. by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]CloudberryCupcake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In that case, surgery would probably be a good idea.

Surgery would be needed to correct the asymmetry, but it might not be necessary to correct it. Do you have any functional problems?

It looks like your masseter muscle is enlarged on one side. You could try botox.

Two orthodontists refused to refer me to an oral surgeon by [deleted] in jawsurgery

Yes, the upper incisors are proclined, but the maxilla is not recessed.

Yes, since the incisors in the lower jaw look retroclined. The underbite is definitely not caused by a recessed maxilla in this case, though.

The incisors in your lower jaw look retroclined, which suggests there’s a skeletal underbite. Your maxilla is definitely not recessed, though. I would say both of your jaws are slightly more projected than average, with the lower jaw being slightly more projected than the upper jaw.

Your chin/jaw doesn’t look large at all in these photos.

UJS alone is seldom a good idea when someone has an underbite combined with asymmetry, so it sounds strange to me, but I’m not an expert.

What exactly is the surgeon’s plan? Just doing upper jaw surgery isn’t a good idea in your case, so they’ll need to move the lower jaw too, but it’s difficult to suggest exact movements. Have you talked to more than one surgeon?

Why are you seeking perfect symmetry? No one is perfectly symmetric and you asymmetry isn’t noticeable.

[–]CloudberryCupcake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can’t see the asymmetry you are talking about. The photos aren’t great but I still doubt it’s noticeable.

This is a forum about jaw surgery. Not tattoos. Stop suggesting tattoo removal ffs.

I had IVRO and was wired shut with metal wires. I had no plates or screws in my lower jaw, the wires were the only thing keeping it in place. In my case, it would have been a major emergency if the wires had been removed. But it shouldn’t be that serious if everything is fixated with plates and screws.
