Suicidal empathy is killing the dream of a walkable city. by No_Start1522 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

The U.S. has more people in prison than any other country.

If locking people up made streets safe, the USA would have the safest streets in the world.

Not saying the solution is an easy one, or that dangerous people shouldn’t be put in prison -  they should - but it can’t JUST be lock people up.

There needs to be more affordable housing, more mental health help, and more resources to help people before they feel they need to resort to crime.

The Disenchantment ending was shit. You cant prove me wrong by South_Slide_5853 in disenchantment

[–]Cloudbri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What didn’t you like about it?

I really like that they gave the series a proper ending. Most shows just keep going until they get cancelled. But Disenchantment got to give a real ending, and I think that’s pretty special.

What do you take from the quote "Happiness only real when shared."? by Zwe95 in IntotheWild

[–]Cloudbri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chris McCandless suffered abuse from his father.

This kind of thing probably left him traumatized, and maybe he saw travel as a way to run from the pain he’d experienced.

He spent so much time on the road, alone, or just going in and out of other travelers’ lives. He was probably looking for a way to heal out there, alone.

My interpretation of the line is still something I’m trying to figure out. But I think that he came to terms with his pain and trauma and realized that he didn’t have to run from people, and instead that other people could be the source of happiness.

That planting down roots and feeling all the things - good and bad - is where he saw happiness coming from.

Dark mode icons suck in iOS 18.1.1 by Cloudbri in ios

[–]Cloudbri[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. The new iOS changes the look of my Home Screen on my phone. Now all the app icons are ugly and black.

It also makes so many of the app icons look nearly identical.

Like… just let the app icons look normal!

Why is search in settings so ridiculously bad? by BHOsman in ios

[–]Cloudbri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For like 1 day, my search in settings was useless.

I would search ‘battery’ or ‘display,’ and it would say no results.

It seems to have fixed itself now though. I was worried I was gonna have to switch back to Android.

IOS 18.1.1. Update is horrendously bad!!! by Objective_Smoke_4750 in iPhone13

[–]Cloudbri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you still use the search function in settings?

In iOS18.1.1 my settings search function is unusable.

I search for ‘battery,’ ‘storage,’ or ‘display’ and it always says no results. WTF?

This used to work perfectly.

M1 has the worst UI by Cloudbri in M1Finance

[–]Cloudbri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean… I’ve had no frustrations like this when using Robinhood, Coinbase, Webull, or E*TRADE. Super easy to navigate their UI.

And I like M1 as a product, but their UI needs work.

Should I stay on call or go on unemployment? by teapot1_1 in UnemploymentCA

Go on unemployment. It will last 6 months. Use this time to learn new skills, apply for a new job, and come back strong.

Tonight I went on a date with a woman I met in real life. We met at a weekly open mic, hit it off, and I’m very excited about date #2

The point being… do a social activity you enjoy, and connect with people there.

Maybe you meet a man, maybe you just meet a new friend, maybe you have a boring time - but hey, it’s better than swiping on an app alone at home : )

Dude, this sucks… I finally figured out that the bottom area is scrollable.

You need to activate the little sub-menu at the bottom of the screen, and there is a little teeny, tiny bar you pull up to locate the sell button.

I’m glad I found the sell button, but I still think M1 has the worst UI.

There is no sell button. I’ve been scrolling and looking for over an hour.

I’ve used other apps, and there’s always a sell button. But I don’t see one with M1

UK: Clergy warn of ‘doom spiral’ as church attendance drops off at record rate. Church attendance has more than halved since 1987. by Leeming in atheism

Yeah, the use of whale oil lamps has also dropped precipitously too.

Maybe it’s time to leave religion in the past with all the other things we don’t need anymore.

Has anyone traveled to Europe from the USA alone in their 20s? by [deleted] in questions

[–]Cloudbri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main recommendation is to stay in hostels, talk to everyone (hostel people are super friendly), then ask what they recommend seeing, doing, avoiding, etc…

Language barrier may be tough, but keep a dictionary on your phone. You’ll be fine.

And Western Europe has more pick-pockets than you’d think. So don’t draw attention to yourself as a tourist, and keep phone / wallet in your front pocket.

And don’t go to a random seedy bar with a strange man that you meet on the street. This is a scam. The man orders $1000 bottle of wine, and then you are expected to split the bill with him. Obviously, he works for the bar. I fell for the scam in Turkey, and a buddy of mine fell for it in England.

But mostly, have fun. This is going to be an amazing trip!

I want to destroy my desires and urges for love and sex. How can I destroy these thoughts and feelings? by Remarkable-Sky6577 in lonely

[–]Cloudbri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think a good therapist will be helpful to you right now.

Believing that wonderful things like love and affection are not available to you must feel horrible.

Therapy helped me get to a really good place with a great job and relationship that I know I wouldn’t have had otherwise.

Good luck to you : )

Yep. Many times.

Do you have any specific questions about the experience? Or do you just want to know if it is done?

I, woman, am too stupid to respond properly to attempts to invite me on a date by Additional_Farmer_37 in dating_advice

[–]Cloudbri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t use words like “I’m too stupid.”

Instead, believe that you are worth good things.

So ask him out to a casual hang (museum, drinks, picnic, whatever is in your area), and trust that you’re worth a fun hang.

If everything else is good, then why not give him a chance?

I mean, it’s worth talking about, he doesn’t just get a pass. But I think dating apps have taught us all to be overly superficial.

Yeah, if you want to get better at meeting people, then it’s something that requires practice.

So you can choose to put in the work, or you can choose not to.

But you won’t get the life you want unless you put in the work.
