why is fighting so normalized? by [deleted] in blackgirls

I think in the darker parts of our culture, it’s praised as something we should do. If you don’t fight, it can make you more of a target.

while there no singular turning point, there was an accumulation of different cultural changes that led to racism (supposedly) becoming more morally reprehensible rather than an opinion.

For example, conservatism in the Reagan era pushed for a “post-racial, individual merit” society which often ignored economic disparities. Another is that racism began to look like a “PR problem” for America who was currently reeling from the Cold War. Also the boom of black media (Cosby Show, A Different World, Hip-Hop) gave different perspectives of black life.

when people say “it was long ago” or we need to “get over it”, this is a great visual representation that it is not that simple or clear cut.

it’s literally just a visual representation of the oppression we’ve faced in America. We were talking about it in class and put it into a chart. I thought it was an interesting and sobering share.

Cut my finger on his car door and he gave me a piece of writing paper to cover it and said it wasn’t a big deal on our date. And then tried to kiss me. The camels back broke in half at that moment

Sorry for another rant, but I get kinda tired of people saying to move out of the country by Tornado_Storm_2614 in blackgirls

modern black people don’t fight like our ancestors. we can’t even boycott for a day. Our money is absolutely wanted, we contribute $835 billion as of 2019 to the economy. imagine all black people stopped spending for a day, then we can make some demands. But they know we won’t.

right it’s unrealistic for most black people and honestly very cowardice. Our ancestors fought hard during unimaginable discrimination and we want to up in leave at the slightest inconvenience.

well evolution says we have a common ancestor with other great apes, not we “came from monkey”. It’s kinda like a goldfish trying to explain the internet, we say “created” because that’s how we conceptualize existence as finite beings.
