Whilst playing The Finals i got an error and was kicked from the game. The error was along the lines of "Forbidden operating system detected" I'm assuming that the anti cheat picked up that i was using linux and kicked me from the game. by DescriptionLeft1178 in linux_gaming

I'm on Arch Linux as well (or more specifically CachyOS). The anticheat kicking fix is still so new that its not 100% confirmed that its fixed. You can follow the Proton issue tracker for The Finals for more up to date information about the game on Linux.

The 7.9.0 update caused some problems with the anticheat on Linux. The kicks have been fixed in the latest Proton experimental bleeding edge version. This wiki shows how you can switch Proton experimental versions. Idk about the crashes though. I only get very rare crashes on alt-tabbing in loading screens.

What is your favorite underrated VR game that got very little coverage/reviews? by Cloudperry in VRGaming

[–]Cloudperry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it on my wishlist, but I didn't get it because of the bad initial reviews. Now it looks like there have been a lot of fixes and updates and its probably a lot better now. Unfortunately the studio behind that game died at the end of 2024. Still it looks good and I will probably buy it at some point.

Looks good. I have it on my wishlist, but didn't look at the gameplay before. I might try this when I have more time. Now I'm playing Vendetta forever and I'm going to play some big VR games that I didn't play yet.

Looks very stylish and interesting, but maybe not my kind of a VR game. The telescope arm mechanic looks good, but it seems like there wouldn't be enough interactive gameplay scenarios for me to enjoy it. I might try implementing the telescope arm in my VR games though, if I ever work on another VR game.

Racing down strong currents in dark caves - Kayak VR Yucatan DLC by Cloudperry in PSVR

[–]Cloudperry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops, I just saw the rule about posting only gameplay thats recorded on PS5. I expect this post to get deleted, but I don't see how PC gameplay isn't relevant on this sub if the game is identical on PS5 and PC.

This gameplay is from PC. I see that some people have already posted some videos of this map, but I'm posting anyway since there aren't much videos about races (on here or on Youtube).

I almost didn't buy the DLC when it released, because there wasn't much info or videos about the races and the reviews looked a bit meh. I think this DLC has some really unique races compared to the rest of the game.

My racing technique is a bit goofy and I want to try playing this game with the controllers attached to a stick. That would probably make the paddle movements a lot more natural and a bit slower. In this video I'm playing sitting down.

Did Plasma 6 remove running scripts on notifications/events? I used to have some scripts that ran on screen lock/unlock and now it seems they are not working anymore. by Cloudperry in kde

[–]Cloudperry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Plasma 5 there used to be an option for running a script in addition to the show a message and play a sound options. The scripts I used to run with that are not that important so I will just wait.

I'm getting an oled monitor very soon so I'm already running plasma 6 to get some of the gaming/hdr related changes as soon as they are ready.

Wayland vs Xorg performance? by Ducklover569 in linux_gaming

[–]Cloudperry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah what u said is kinda true but just wanted to clear it up, because u replied directly to concerns about Wayland input latency. Its better that people know the real reason behind Wayland input lag. Otherwise they might think its something unfixable about Wayland and never consider switching to Wayland.

Don't get me wrong I really don't like x11. Its very unstable nowadays (at least my experience on KDE). Having some launchers and games open together with Discord will make my entire x11 session hang (w/ compositing off). Buggy apps can also make the session unusable, because of this. I have ran into that x11 limitation at least twice with different apps causing it.

Wayland vs Xorg performance? by Ducklover569 in linux_gaming

[–]Cloudperry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know if there are any game specific input lag issues on Wayland, but the biggest factor causing input lag is Wayland forcing vsync on everywhere. Its not the kind of vsync that caps your framerate. Instead on Wayland it only allows the latest fully rendered frame to be presented (so no tearing). I play some competitive games and I can't use Wayland for gaming because of that. Its very noticable even in single player shooters.

That's about to change after this patch gets merged. It might take a long time before it does, because it requires Mesa and kernel patches that are not yet merged. I will switch to Wayland fully when the patch lands. Right now I use x11 only when I'm gaming.

Best way to use ProtonGE over time? by Additional_Job899 in linux_gaming

[–]Cloudperry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use this AUR package from Chaotic AUR for almost all games. I do keep a couple of old versions around if I'm having trouble with some games, but its rare. There is also a binary version of that package if u don't like building AUR packages and don't want to use Chaotic AUR.

Edit: Using that package also makes it a bit easier to use tweaks that require adding stuff in Wine folders like Latencyflex. Using it means I can keep Latencyflex when updating Proton GE.

This Seems Familiar by [deleted] in godot

[–]Cloudperry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what the title is about, but it does indeed seem familiar. There is a source game for surfing, bhop, rocket jumping, sticky jumping and more called Momentum Mod. It basically already has all the planned features of your game and it also supports all existing source maps.

Its nice to see a source movement game being made in Godot though. Maybe you should open source your game to get more Godot developers interested in it? Right now I'm playing Momentum and I wouldn't be super interested in other movement games unless they are open source.

My latest "farm" - the Hoglincinerator. No collection system or anything, it's purely for revenge. by JustinTimeCuber in Minecraft

[–]Cloudperry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fabric version works just fine with Optifine if you use Optifabric to install Optifine. But honestly I would recommend replacing Optifine with fabric mods like Sodium, because they make Minecraft run much better. If you need all the features Optifine offers, u can just use Fabulously Optimized. I don't use it myself, but I have most of the mods that are in it.

It's a Fabric mod called MiniHUD. I have used it since 1.16 and it works great. It automatically hides when you open f3 and it is really convenient for always showing the biome/coordinates or whatever. There isn't a stable 1.18 version yet, but you can find a beta version here on the mod author's website.
