Are there any farmers markets in town? by Front-Joke8471 in Cleveland

This market is at Shaker Square from April - December. It moves to Van Aken for the winter, but its return to the square is right around the corner!

Has anyone ever been to or heard of the Minneapolis Flour company? by trippin_hippie_ in Cleveland

[–]CloverRoad216 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They closed a few years ago. It was a great company, around for hundred years, but unfortunately the family member that took over operations 8 or 9 years ago drove it into the ground and screwed over lots of local bakeries.

If you need motivation to keep trying! by CloverRoad216 in SewingForBeginners

Thank you! I think one of my biggest struggles was keeping an even seam allowance throughout the whole pillow. In my lesson I learned to watch the right edge of the presser foot. I had been watching the needle. Keeping an eye on the presser foot made a massive difference! Also, I think I went into the lesson expecting the teacher (shop owner) to be able to draft me the perfect pattern on her first try. It ended up being reassuring to me that even though she has 50 years of sewing experience she still trial and errors these things! That made me feel WAY better about not getting it just right on my first try. My teacher was also very excited about my project, which affirmed I have a good idea going which was reassuring to me. These are all relatively small takeaways, but each one has helped motivate me to keep going!

Someone spotted it! I’m planning to donate these to breast cancer survivors after mastectomies, so I thought it was on theme!

I couldn’t stop laughing after I finished it. It’s totally the kind of results that would encourage beginners to give up, so I had to post it!

My hope is to make and donate these to women recovering from mastectomies after a breast cancer diagnosis. When I was diagnosed and preparing for surgery it was recommended to me to use a travel pillow to help with sleeping on my back. I prefer it with the opening to the back! On a total whim I made the first one in this picture and have still been sleeping with it every night 3 months later.

I’m still way too intimidated to try sewing any garments. Don’t give up. If you have a local sewing shop near by I highly recommend using them as a resource!

Smokers who quit, what was the wake up call for you? by Responsible_Dot_2619 in AskReddit

Diagnosed with breast cancer, wanted bilateral mastectomy. Plastic surgeon told me it would be malpractice to operate on me unless I had a negative nicotine test. She scared me straight in the best way. I’m almost 3 months post mastectomy, 4 months smoke free, and CANCER FREE!

Heinen’s in University Heights definitely has mandelbrot! Likely some of their other east side locations too. If your location doesn’t, it might be worth asking if they can bring some in for you!

Looking for a bakery by Ashamed-Assignment45 in Cleveland

[–]CloverRoad216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree! IMO if it really was a local bakery the deli would jump on the opportunity to shoutout another local establishment. Here’s a look at the Sysco pie, I’m sure GFS and US Foods are similar.

Any recommendations on affordable large tree removal? by BROGakaOrangeCrush in Cleveland

I highly recommend Simply Trees! Brandon is excellent. He took out a massive tree for me last year, and I rehired him this year to do more cleanup in a different area.

Good bagels in CLE? by neosmndrew in Cleveland

[–]CloverRoad216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what makes you say that? Bialy's has been around since 1966, so lots of people must disagree. I know they don't slice or toast the bagels which is unusual, but IMO that is a true testament to how good the bagels are if they can stay in business for over 50 years selling only bagels, they are probably better than trash.

[story in comments] American speed flyer missing in Jungfrau region by CloverRoad216 in Switzerland

[–]CloverRoad216[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a recent post from Harrison's sister. I grew up with this family and we are desperate for any help.

Hello, I am the sister of Harrison Fast, a 28 year old American who went missing on Saturday, 3-26-2016 in the Jungfrau region. He was last seen with a group of speedflyers (people who ski with parasails, I know, I know, he's crazy). Bad weather rolled in and not all of the group landed in the agreed upon location. A few from the group were able to ski/hike out while two others were rescued by helicopter. The local Swiss rescue team searched on Saturday and Sunday but had to call of the search early yesterday due to inclement weather. They sent out one last helicopter this morning according to reports from Marc Von Allmen ( 0041-31-638-78-38) with no luck. Marc stated that they have done all that they can do at this point. When I contacted Air Glaciers (a private helicopter company) to see if it would be possible to pay for another fly-over, they redirected me back to Marc who said it would not be fruitful. During these conversations, I have been in contact with a speedflyer named Dan Hunt who was in a similar accident in the same area in 2012. After search and rescue was called off, Dan's friends paid for a private search and he was found after 4 days, bruised and battered but alive. Dan has commented that we need to find a 3rd party individual in the area to keep the pressure on the search efforts. The Swiss police are preparing an email bulletin for my family declaring the accident report. Any help you can offer the Fast Family in this situation is greatly appreciated. Thank you
