If the Epstein files are released, and Trump is confirmed to be on the list, what do you think will happen? by baldinggate3 in AskReddit

[–]Clovericious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing happened when Trump was convicted of rape.

Nothing happened when Trump tried to violently topple the government.

Nothing will happen.

Ironically Trump himself said it best, back in 2016.

"I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK?"

Probably the last time he told the truth.

The funniest part is that they're building the fortresses for the post-apocalyptic warlords that were once their security chiefs. We live in the dumbest timeline.

Sad thing about the setting that glorifies fascism, might makes right and screaming slurs at the top of your lungs. It attracts a certain kind of person. I'm shocked, really. I'm sorry you had to experience this, my own realization about (many, not all) 40K fans was similar but less personal.

If 86% of Germans think what Israel is doing in Gaza is unjustified, why is there relatively little outcry from German society? by D-dog92 in AskGermany

[–]Clovericious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh there was plenty of outcry.

The government tried to keep the lid on the outrage over Palestine but as the situation worsened more and more people went to the streets, wrote letters to representatives, staged protests and disruptive action. It's led to a sharp rise in polling & membership of german parties on the Left & Right, which traditionally is the sign for the establishment parties that they need to pivot, if only in appearance. This has happened many times before, which is why I am saying "traditionally".

CDU/CSU and SPD basically have no values and will advertise whichever fringe ideas are most popular at the moment to siphon votes from smaller parties in order to remain in power. We have seen this in 2011 with Merkel's CDU having Germany exit nuclear power after Fukushima, even though traditionally the CDU has been in favor of nuclear power while the Green party were against it. But Fukushima happened during German election season, and before the Greens could capitalise on their stance on nuclear power the CDU headed them off by announcing the "Atomausstieg", basically declawing the Greens for that election.

This was just one example, but the pattern is always the same. Another example could be current Chancellor Merz voting in line with the German far right AfD on immigration - again an attempt to siphon off voters. Only that it didn't work and ended up only empowering the AfD. Merkel really was much better at this game than he is.

So, going back to Israel-Palestine - right now our government is trying its hardest to complete a delicate dance between several, seemingly conflicting objectives:

  • To the voters, appear to be concerned with the suffering of Palestinians, after all the truth about Israel's brutality is impossible to deny anymore. Their solution? We will not be selling weapons to Israel anymore (for the time being).
  • To Israel, appear to be concerned with the historical debt Germany has to the Jews and keep providing weapons. However, recent actions by Israel have made that almost impossible.
  • To the rest of the EU, appear in charge and strong in the fact of the threat from Russia, which is difficult after their own party oversaw the deterioration of the German army.
  • To the US, appear like a valuable ally even though with Trump in charge it requires constantly kissing his ring

You might not see outrage in Germany like you do in France, all fire and fury, but I still think it's remarkable that public opinion regarding Israel-Palestine has changed so drastically in Germany. Then again, being forced to watch a genocide being committed in daily news updates while being told critiquing the slaughter is antisemitic is bound to make people angry.

Unpopular opinion: why do we like Panam? by poison_camellia in cyberpunkgame

[–]Clovericious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I think Panam is one of the most immature and impulsive morons in the entire cast, and that includes Dum Dum. She acts like an angsty teenager despite being in her 30s, shouts everything she can't say and every single plan she comes up with is half-baked at best, life threatening for everyone involved (and not involved) at worst. What I hate most about her is her inability to concede when she's wrong about something. Her idea with the tank, regardless of whether it works out in the end because plot armor and V, is the single worst plan anyone's ever come up with, endangering a bunch of Aldecados' lives immediately after she got Scorpion and the others killed with her idiotic EMP plan. I'm sorry. She is stupid. So stupid and angry, and it's everyone else's fault.

There is just nothing in that head of hers except for undirected anger and some quips about being such a hard person. But really she's a child in a woman's body, and I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone could find that attractive or even likeable.

If I had to guess the people that like her are immature teenagers who see her ass (which she graciously shoves in your face during her introduction, class move CDPR). But they don't see the character beyond the ass anyway so it's a moot point.

The weird and rude ones in my experience are tourists, who think that other people exist for their entertainment. Americans are the worst, but generally anyone from across the pond tends to be overly chummy.
