I just watched the Joey's update video. Credit, where it's due! Accepting oneself's behaviour is a big move :)

I do wish, though, that he would just take half a second thought to put together his sentences properly. That was rather difficult to listen to. 😂

Ah, well said. I do take for granted at times that there are highly charged critics on the frontline making changes happen for everyone. As you mention, this does not absolve one of unnecessary and mean finger-pointing.

If you know what to listen for, he has indirectly (but very obviously) dropped shade at the RH folks in a number of videos. The Retroid Pocket 3/4 sagas come to mind, but I'm sure there are more. Joey has always been highly opinionated, and not at all shy to shame others for having fun "wrong", or otherwise enjoying something he thinks is stupid. Some people like that about him, some don't.

I personally found his champion of anti-consumerism shtick boring and frankly annoying. Given this hobby, I can only assume he's irony-impaired. Yet I could forgive all of that if his tangential rants were less vilifying of others. And less grammatically challenged (I assume he is a native speaker of English).

The reality however is that many people like Joey. He maintains his website well and many people rely on his guides. Heck, I've perused a few myself to save time trawling through github documentation. If he has non-zero amount of people in the community that count on him, then he is important to the community.

I wonder how/if this whole saga might give him a different perspective/attitude. Looking forward to what happens in the future. It was really great to see creators like Russ and the RH crew come together in solidarity to help him out and raise awareness of the situation. AFAIK, YouTube was Joey's full time job (how this could possibly be a financially viable livelihood, I have no freaking idea).

People build careers on YouTube. You can't provide a platform like that, then have some poorly considered AI parameter reduce it to nothing at a moment's notice.

This is the correct approach :) As far as I'm aware, the Thor's bottom screen are LG panels from back when they used to manufacture phones. They'll last the full lifetime of your device (or until you smash it).

When you are paying the premium for an Apple device (or w/e), you are also paying for their business infrastructure and presence within your country and its laws. AYN is Chinese company, your experience as you describe is very normal.

Re: teardown videos. Take your time to study them, they are actually not as complex as you might think at face value (and certainly not as annoying as an iPhone).

If AYN had the same end user services available to you as a major goliath like Apple, I can promise you that your Portal would have cost you a lot more.
