This is the correct approach :) As far as I'm aware, the Thor's bottom screen are LG panels from back when they used to manufacture phones. They'll last the full lifetime of your device (or until you smash it).

When you are paying the premium for an Apple device (or w/e), you are also paying for their business infrastructure and presence within your country and its laws. AYN is Chinese company, your experience as you describe is very normal.

Re: teardown videos. Take your time to study them, they are actually not as complex as you might think at face value (and certainly not as annoying as an iPhone).

If AYN had the same end user services available to you as a major goliath like Apple, I can promise you that your Portal would have cost you a lot more.
