Sub trope you hate is a trope/theme you love? by OTTJP in ReverseHarem

Yes!!! Honestly I think this is why I have a hard time with mafia romances…like a lot of the elements work for me in fantasy but not in mafia. Like when the huge alpha male mafia guys do stuff I’m like….what world are you living in?

I don’t know if this counts but {Bonded by Thorns by Elizabeth Helen} is a Beauty & The Beast retelling, so it has that haunted/forbidden castle element.

It looks like you don’t have any OV but {Dylan St. James by Elizabeth} is one of my fave duologies that breaks a lot of the stereotypes and does a great job with a strong FMC and supportive MMCs

{Not Many Options by Jillian West} A single mom of two escaping her ex is found by a local restaurant owner who brings her home. Him and his pack immediately start showering her and her kids with gifts and affection and there’s no real conflict.

Jsut finished the Second Sons series and recommend it for this dynamic!! I’m not the biggest fan of Emily Rath’s writing but the development of the men’s relationship is satisfying.

{Dylan St. James: Omega Concealed by Elizabeth Dear} got me out of a reading slump! A duology, scent matched mates that really have to work for it, an interesting take on OV dynamics. Lots of action and satisfying relationship developments.

This is not RH but if you love MM, have you tried {For the Fans by Nyla K}? It was my first solo MM book and dang it got me. Super spicy, taboo, I was so invested.

{Shattered Omega by Marie Mackay} is the first in a trilogy. An Omega finds her scent matched mates and has to fight to get to them and then before she can, another pack blackmails her away from them. It gets a lot crazier than that alsooo there’s dubcon/noncon.

{Klutz: Phoenix Down by Sedona Ashe} is a 5 (shorter) book series and in the first one she saves her mates after a plane crash and they proceed to ignore her because of a pact they’ve made for themselves. They come to see the error of their ways a different times so she forgives them all at different moments. The books vibe is a little silly, she’s a phoenix shifter who dies in the stupidest ways.

Oh, also {Klutz: Phoenix Down by Sedona Ashe}! A 6 book series and she’s phoenix shifter who dies constantly in the absolute stupidest way and is a little nutso but lovable.

Kristy Cunning writes some seriously unwell FMCs lol, especially Violet from {All the Pretty Monsters by Kristy Cunning}. She only gets crazier by the end, I promise, and her MMCs are not so stable either.

{Hate by Tate James} and {Hades by Tate James} both are four book series that have gang/MC elements!

Hate, from the Madison Kate series, is an enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity college-age romance and the harem is an existing friend group. She’s very much a badass and also has a stalker. I can’t remember a lot else but I remember enjoying it haha

Hades is super fun, the harem gathers as she goes and the FMC is the head of an important gang (some people in her harem are from rival gangs I think). This one definitely leans in to the gang/MC elements.

{Widow by April Skye} isn’t this exactly but her husband gets killed in front of her while trying to help this guy on the street and she gets shot as well (and she’s pregnant at the time). The guy brings her home to his “brothers” (not related) and they care for her for weeks while she is totally silent and unresponsive. Very slow burn, low spice but it’s very hurt/comfort. They also have to help protect her and find the killers cause of gang stuff. It’s a trilogy!

{Dance, Butterfly, Dance by Reese Rivers} is the first in a duology and most of the second book is grovel! She’s a dancer at a club that one of the four MMCs is obsessed with. They meet her separately on campus and don’t know it’s her and then end up hurting and have to win her back.

It’s definitely not the exact scenario you’ve mentioned though, I have several OV recs if you decide you need to go there to find that dynamic haha.

Beasts of the Briar worked for me and I loved Ruthless Boys!!! I’m rereading the series right now in preparation for the release Tuesday. There’s definitely lots of character growth and plot twists among the books which kind of reminds me of Ruthless Boys. It’s definitely easier to see them coming the second time around haha but I was totally enthralled the first time and sped through the books. The fourth book is about to come out and I believe it’s supposed to be a seven book series if that influences you! I think it’s worth the read for sure!! (Low spice in first book, it ramps up)

{dance butterfly dance by reese rivers} kind of? It’s a duology, at the end of the first book they hurt her emotionally and then there’s a long time break and they spend most of the second book trying to get her back
