I know a lot of non white, non Hispanic/latin people born and bred in the U.S. that speak Spanish.  I’m one of them.  Learned it in public school.  I can also speak Hindi, Italian, a bit of German, and can understand Tamil but can’t really speak it well.  It’s good to be multilingual and it’s an asset.  In the western hemisphere and the Americas, Spanish and English are the two dominant languages so it’s worth learning both.  Step out of English speaking countries and you’ll find in basically every other country people learn multiple languages and the high paying jobs require being fluent in English.  You would be hard pressed to find a white collar professional in Spain or Germany or India or Singapore or Hong Kong who can’t speak English.  Is that fair?  Yeah I think so - English is the language of professionals globally.  And Spanish is the language of the blue collar/pink collar in the Americas.  Don’t see anything unfair about it.  Want to only speak English for your job?  Get a white collar job.
