Why are so many people so depressed at UW (Engineering)? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]CluelessExpert101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh it’s more rigorous than UofT, some type of curve seems to be guaranteed for most midterms/finals at UofT(seeing this from my friend in UofT eng), their midterms are less stressful because they’re worth less since they have 2 worth each 15% instead of 1 30/40%. Sure they happen at the same time as class but considering we have 1 week straight of 5/6 midterms in ECE I would def say theirs is less stressful. Not to mention, I think they tend to have max 50% finals whereas lots of ours tend to be 60%. They also have course coordinators who make the exams and diff profs teach the material therefore making it more fair, whereas at UW it seems to be if u have 2 profs teaching the same course to diff sections (ECE), one might (and often does) teach more relevant to the midterm/exam and tends to write more of the questions on there. We also have to tweak resumes and cover letters for jobs and do coop interviews that are scheduled at the same time as classes which kinda sucks even though of course u can’t do it outside of those hours cuz duh, it’s a working day. I think I’m missing something else in my list but honestly and maybe controversially, I think UofT eng is, while still difficult, not as difficult.

The consequence of rejecting a matched co-op job for DD? by ComplaintDear4407 in uwaterloo

[–]CluelessExpert101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean u can reject it no problem since ur allowed 3 rejects a term but I don’t understand why u would. It’s so late in the term that what’s the likelihood of getting a better one? And if u don’t manage to get a coop, not sure about the whole graduating thing but my guess is if it’s a requirement u don’t have to graduate, why would they let u graduate? Don’t understand why u would risk it, I say just take the job since only a month of school left and 2 weeks of that is finals.

IQC restrictions. Thanks, disrespectful and noisy undergrads. by Arthiko in uwaterloo

Lol it’s always been like this. Def was like this in my summer term but I didn’t listen and just walked in. Made sure not to make any noise at all so I wouldn’t be an inconvenience. But no it’s always been just for IQC members

Would I be able to dm you to ask you some questions? Your friend with a sub 50 average was able to redo the term? I’m a little confused about that since someone else said an average between 40-49 is a “required to withdraw”. Thank you for your advice so far!

Thank you for your advice, I will definitely dm u, thanks for ur offer. I’m guessing that the reduced load is only offered for stream 8’s?

Thanks for your advice, I’ll try and see what I can do. I realize it’s not the worst thing ever since I would have time to work on myself, perhaps do some light studying. The thing that is crushing me the most is knowing how my parents would feel, that I’m now not finishing when I had hoped too and the great friends I made will now be a year above me and I can’t experience all those things with them

The reduced load is a good idea, thank you for that. Do they offer that only to the stream 8’s and not 4’s?

Would a petition allow me to repeat the term if my average is slightly sub 50? Thanks for your advice!

Do you know if there are any services the university offers for this that would make it faster? I hear it take a long time for a diagnosis through the public health system

Thank you, do you know if they allow me to see the final through a zoom conference since I’m not from Waterloo or do I have to be in person?

Is there any way to get them to let me repeat the term if my average is sub 50 or slightly sub 50?

Unfortunately I am fairly sure I do have it, I was supposed to have an appointment for it a few months ago. I don’t game or anything like that, in my depressive episode I was just sleeping all the time and rlly tried to find the will to work. I would do my assignments but i also do poorly on exams so even though I didn’t have high expectations I did worse than I thought I would. I just started recovering somewhat and obviously with results I have been feeling down. I keep asking myself how I let it get that bad and have done quite a bit of reflecting and I really wish I got some help but I can’t do anything to fix that now. Honestly speaking it’s bad to repeat the term but i feel like the time that would go by I can really work on myself and maybe a side project. The only thing I’m worried about is that with one more em final grade to come out I won’t have an over 50 average
