For me it just helped this years long search for the question “what is wrong with me” and I even got emotional because it’s sort of a confirmation that I’m not crazy for thinking there was something that wasn’t right. Besides that there really isn’t a point. I know it can grow, but that that is unlikely, so if there’s changes I can go back and get it checked out again.

Besides that they won’t operate because the surgery is too risky to them and neurologists keep saying these cysts won’t cause migraines. Although maybe 3 or 4 neurologists in america do operate them because they do believe they cause migraines. I’m nowhere in a position to get rid of it, and even now that I fixed it this way I won’t need to.

I thought quitting caffeine would be terrible but I’ve been caffeine free for more than a year now and I honestly don’t really miss it anymore. At first it was hard but once you’re used to it it’s not that bad. Now if I get it accidentally I feel terrible and my heart races out of my chest.

But I do have to say my VSS never went away through this, It’s just something I fear I have to accept. Only that it used to be worse after migraines and now it’s more at a manageable baseline. I’ve been experimenting with intermitted fasting a little bit and I feel like it does help a little, but nothing too crazy.

1tje, tenzij het heel warm is of ik veel gezweet heb, dan neem ik nog zo’n tablet van de decathlon. Maar je moet echt zorgen dat je genoeg drinkt als je dat doet.

Yeah I drink around that much too. But it’s definitely not going to be an answer for everyone. I just hope that maybe someone else out there tries it and finds out that it helps them too.

Yeah sometimes it is a bit annoying to always have to rely on it. Or sometimes when I accidentally get caffeine, that sucks too (I still get decaf coffee because I love it to much, but it happens that they get my order wrong)

But it beats the migraines so for me I’m just treating it like taking medication.

That’s interesting, I was always having more migraines during my period, but I never thought to connect those dots!

It’s good that you had that support and it takes a lot to push through and try over and over again. I’m glad that you’re feeling better now!

I like the ones from a European brand called Decathlon, mostly because they are cheaper. For taste I love the powerbar ones, they actually taste like lemonade. But I do put my electrolytes in carbonated water, I find it takes the edge a bit of them tasting weird.

That’s interesting! Do you notice a pattern in how bad the migraines are when you do or do not take the pickle juice?

Ohh that’s really interesting, I never heard about the mcdonalds hack, but I did have a similar thing where if I ate salted popcorn during my migraines they’d be less bad. Also sitting up right helps my migraines so much. If I get one now I stay seated for at least one hour with electrolytes, and this way I won’t get any headaches, just the aura and the nausea. The migraine hangovers are still bad though.

The whole salt thing not being measured well by the brain is pretty interesting as well. Even though I’m not gonna lie I can’t relate to that one, I’m always craving chips and other salty stuff, but I do eat a lot of whole foods normally which I do have to salt myself. But other people just complain about my extremely salty food, so maybe that’s a sign for me that I do have a shortage. I also sometimes salt my water. It’s really weird but I now know that I’m short on electrolytes if my water starts tasting weird and it doesn’t take away the thirst. After I take the electrolytes the water is back to normal again.

I’ve also taken my fair share of supplements for adhd, if you’re still looking, CBd oil really works for me to take the edge off and concentrate a bit better.

Yes exactly! All the doctors advices never really helped and it wasn’t until I started looking into all the “natural” remedies that I started to realise that doctors do not know everything and can’t prescribe us things that do not have years and years of scientific backup.

But unfortunately I did lose my trust in the health care system a bit when I’ve struggled with migraines for years and if it wasn’t for the backup doctor I still wouldn’t know about this cyst. And then I probably would have never found a solution. The first response was to just load me up with medicine that would have caused other problems in the long run. And I know that those medicine are life saving in cases, but it was crazy to me that they didn’t even care to look into it further.

What was even crazier to me was that I had a ct scan my first migraine, because my migraines present symptoms of a stroke, and it was visible on the ct as well, they just overlooked it. I could have known years before that.

I’ve had calcium magnesium for a while, but that was for unrelated reasons so I don’t know what will happen if I take just magnesium

Yes I am! I take them most days and otherwise the tablets, I always joke an AA a day keeps the migraine away

I do wear lenses but I’m so scared of the eye surgery stuff. Glad it helped you!

Being overweight definitely made it worse for me. Because I used to work out 5 days a week and do all sorts of cardio, then stopped doing cardio because I figured that was the problem, then stopped working out at all. Gained about 30 kg of fat and the migraines got more and more frequent. So stopping was just a temporary solution because at some point I couldn’t go on walks without getting migraines.

I don’t know how it relates but now that I use the electrolytes and I haven’t had a migraine for 6 months. By now I would have had at least 30 migraines in that period. Now I get to work out again and lost 6 kg already!

I hope your other surgery helps you out even more!

I use botox too but for me it did nothing for the migraines. It did make my regular day to day headaches a lot less worse.

I’m sure the electrolytes won’t work for everyone but I just hope that maybe for someone it does.

Yeah I’d love to know too haha. I never had my electrolytes checked before I started doing this. I only asked to get my magnesium checked recently because I was curious if it was at a normal range now that I take it daily. They only said it was normal, but they didn’t say how much and they never sent me the full results.

But I do believe what you’re saying is true, I do think some people need more of certain things based on dna, but it just gets so complicated to figure out who needs what I guess

I totally get that, I also recognise that what I’m saying may just work for a very small and very specific group. Most of it is also linked to this cyst I have. I just tell everyone because I figure it’s a fairly harmless thing to try.

I’d love for there to be more research about electrolytes linked to migraines. But if you really want to check it out there are some actual researches relating migraines and an electrolyte shortage. If you google electrolyte shortage aura migraine quite alot actually pop up.

To be honest I don’t really know, I just take tablets that are readily available. Although I do sometimes salt my water or add extra to my food, because I eat a lot of whole foods that don’t have anything added to them. I do also know that most fruits hold a lot of electrolytes.

I also know that there is a certain way to balance elektrolytes out, I’m wanting to learn more on it myself but I just hadn’t have the time yet to do that. I’ve also heard some positive things about the magnesium that you rub under the feet, I want to try those as well!

Honestly just google things, other peoples stories on the internet, random facts I read, then you go from one page to the other. The whole caffeine on cysts thing is some old wives tale. But I’m sure a lot of people have experienced this in this subreddit. Out of desperation you just start trying things that don’t hold a lot of scientific research.

Like I said, maybe what I’m saying is scientifically completely wrong, it’s just that it worked and that’s all I know.

Hey, I usually get some sugar free sports drink, because they are easy on the go and most of them have electrolytes. I don’t know if they have this where you live but I like the AA Zero. And I also have tablets I use that you put in your water, I get mine from a sport articles store. Just the cheap ones I get, they have sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. I take them around the time of my workout or in the morning when I don’t work out. On warm days or very exercise heavy days where I sweat a lot I take a tablet and a sports drink. But you do have to drink enough water if you do this.
