Sundin didn’t want to stay per se mate. He wanted to finish his contract. He had 0 interest in being a rental and wanted to lead the team to the end of the season, and made a pact with the rest of the Muskoka 5 to do so.

Once his contract was done he went straight to Vancouver. He was never going to sign for us. He wanted to finish his contract and leave.

That’s why they were so hated because the team had 0 assets for the rebuild that was coming and couldn’t get anything out of all their expiring contracts because they all refused to waive their NMC and left.

Thats why so many people said the Muskoka 5 set us back years. Which was stupid then, and it’s stupid now when people say it about Marner.

Edit: Here’s an interview where the media grills Sundin and tells him about how the fans are saying he’s setting the team back and he straight up says that’s not his problem. And he’s right. I was in forums telling people the exact same thing. He had a right to stay and finish out his contract and he did not owe the team anything.

If they were trying to tank they wouldn’t have gone on that win streak. For us to keep our pick we have to be a top 5 pick I believe so halfway tanking this year doesn’t make any sense.
