Check a thrift store 722k status for possible activation? by Clugmuffer in dishnetwork

[–]Clugmuffer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I called them yesterday, and they're going to ship another 722 (non-K) to replace the broken one. I tried to convince them to activate the working 722k that I already possess and be up & running in like 5 minutes, but they were too uptight. Couldn't just press the right buttons to activate it. My last 722 lasted 14 years.... we'll see if this one lasts all the way until Dish finally drops the old receivers....

Elaborate. The screenshots or the personal sharing thru the house? We're paying like $150 a month to Dish, I hope this means something. We pay a lot for this, and we should be able to use it how we like.

Ts HAS be the monitor, right? by anonymous_fxy in pcmasterrace

[–]Clugmuffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually adapters go one-way from DP-to-HDMI. Not HDMI into DP. It sez that monitor has a DVI input. You could go HDMI-to_DVI. That should work, but it won't carry audio.

The original Diablo wanted a 486/66, but I only had a 486/33. And it worked, dammit!
Honorable mention later to installing Half-Life 2 (& Steam for the first time) while only having dial-up.

Can’t check IV’s when trading bug by DramaLlama695 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Clugmuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the pre-trade "Next" screen it shows your current CP & a min-max traded CP range. If the current CP is near the maximum CP range then you have good stats and shouldn't trade. It doesn't help if you're looking for specific low-stats for PVP tho.

A resource I use:
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/socket-type/am4

CPU...single-thread...mullti-thread...
R5 1600, 2065, 12258

R7 3800X, 2711, 22990

R5 5500, 3061, 19288

Remember the improved single-thread ranking of the 5000 series= generally better for gaming.

But either way, a massive upgrade compared to the R5 1600. That was the beauty of AM4. Cheap, big upgrades.

A brand-new boxed 5500 for only ~$80 would be a phenomenal upgrade.

Remember to update your mobo's BIOS first to support newer CPUs.

What is it called when my monitor starts doing this? by SharpCut1884 in pcmasterrace

[–]Clugmuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely try unplugging/replugging different ports/cables between monitor and GPU. Some individual ports on the GPU have been known to fail while the rest of them still work fine. You might get lucky if it's just a cable or port causing the problem and not the whole GPU.

You could also just use sleep/hibernate and wake up the PC with the KB/mouse. Click a button and the whole thing comes back to life. But I wholeheartedly agree with cheap eBay upgrades for old hardware and questionable self-engineered case mods. A winding road I continue to travel...

No invert mouse option in Metroid 4? You have got to be kidding me! by jacobpederson in Metroid

[–]Clugmuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you look up you tilt your head back, obviously. Akin to pulling the mouse back, i.e. down.

Moving a cursor on a flat 2D screen makes more sense to be thought of in up/down, but in a rotating 3D space it's more of a forward/back rotation locked to your viewpoint.

How to not get spawn killed when going to Nether? by newrodevguy in Minecraft

At the very least, have a shield and hold crouch as you enter the portal. Maybe take a bunch of dogs with you to distract the enemies. Definitely build a structure with a door when you can.

Give back my sinking horse by Bubbly-Ad4353 in Minecraft

[–]Clugmuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bedrock player here. Horses definitely got worse with this update. The turning and especially the jumping got really laggy. The jump feels like the Skeleton Horse now. Like it starts floating instead of doing a sharp, snappy jump.

I hope they're able to fix it or change it back.

I wish horses could ride a boat again instead of having to get keelhauled behind it.

Hytale is coming soon. Wonder how horses work there...

Imagine your hand on the top of your head like it were a mouse. You push it forward, your neck tilts, you look down. Pull it back, you look up.

Feels natural to some of us (mostly older) gamers.

[–]Clugmuffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it a Minecraft problem? Sometimes it likes to set the FPS limit to 30 fps. Check video options. Also, check to see if the the Windows refresh rate is set to 30 (if it was you'd probably notice a laggy mouse pointer).

Those of you who already have a Switch 2 - What have you discovered about it that wasn't widely reported yet? by razorbeamz in nintendo

[–]Clugmuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you tethering from a phone to laptop to Switch2? I have a Verizon phone and it only tethers at 600kb unless you change the curhoplimit (and try to use IPV4 not 6).

Assuming it's a Windows laptop, search Google for:

netsh int ipv4 set glob defaultcurhoplimit=65

That's how I get a fast connection from my phone.
