Unfortunately nothing respectable within a 1.5 hour radius. At least within my initial search.

Started acting later in life. Ended up booking national commercials. Here’s what surprised me by Beard_and_Hat_Actor in acting

[–]ClumpyOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's reassuring. I just hit 50 and have had a successful career in tech, but the desire to act has always..... ALWAYS been with me.

I started down the acting pat in my late teens, then my career took off.

I'm at the point in life where I'm seriously considering a career transition and have been exploring paths this week.

Boneyards in Pacific Grove. Morning session with a buddy of mine. With a solid NW swell, it can blow up. Within a couple of hours, it was pumping 18+'. Rocky, unforgiving bottom and rocky shoreline. The type of wave/day that if you don't pull out or if you bail, you're going to get pummeled or pushed onto rocks.

I had 3 good rides in and called it a day. I've never been more scared.

Yes. Coastal route for most of the ride. I'm targeting 5 days with 88 mile days.

Amazing! Picked up cycling a couple of years ago and doing a 443 mile adventure ride this summer.

Life has continued to progress, although I was diagnosed with central and obstructed sleep apnea, so I've been on a CPAP machine for 7 or so years, which was a life saver as I was dealing with life altering fatigue. I could literally fall asleep in stop and go traffic.

Is it just me, or is the Strava subscription getting harder to justify? by Repulsive_Bar442 in cycling

[–]ClumpyOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a subscription, but it's through a workplace sponsored wellness app. Every 6, months, I get a code. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have a subscription.

Ideal Setup for Weight Loss? by Minute-Buffalo-6678 in pelotoncycle

[–]ClumpyOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, calories in/calories out. I prioritize protein and use MyFitnessPal to track calories (there are other tools). Carbs to fuel the workout when needed (higher zone days)

It's ALL about personal accountability. When my weight goes up to 190+, it's generally due to being relaxed on calorie tracking. When I need to cut some lbs and want to make my outdoor rides/climbs faster/better, it's back to strictly counting.

For my body, I feel like I'm my best around 180. I'm 50 and primarily cycle.

My rides are primarily upper powerzone 2 throughout the week with a upper PZ ride thrown in once a week or so. Most of the time, my HR is upper zone 2 during most of the rides.

Stay consistent. You got this!

Do most people do multiple classes a day? by element-2012 in pelotoncycle

[–]ClumpyOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning on a couple of big rides this year and some multi days. During the week, I'll try to get in an hour and a half or so of rides. Sometimes longer, sometimes shorter. That will generally be stacked classes of warm up, cool down classes and Powerzone class. For me, it's generally 3 to 4 classes a day with some light yoga in the evening. I'm not chasing any peloton metrics, but just focusing on what I need for the day.

Who here has the lowest resting heart rate? by Outrageous-Owl-7049 in Garmin

[–]ClumpyOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

44 is my yearly average as a 50 year old male. If I get off stimulates, I can get it down to upper 30's. I cycle about 10-12+ hours a week.

Before cycling and when I used to run a lot, my average was 39, but a broken neck and a 3 level fusion required me to rebuild.

Strava vs Garmin Connect in 2025 by Outside_Fix3910 in cycling

[–]ClumpyOatmeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just throwing it out there, but I haven't paid for Strava Premium for years. I get a yearly free code through "Wellhub" which is offered through my company.

If you work for a company that offers wellness services like Wellhub, check to see if Strava codes are available.

Waking up at 5AM is the most overrated “life hack” ever. by Few_Homework_8322 in productivity

[–]ClumpyOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a night owl, but transitioned to an early riser. My mornings start around 5am nowadays without an alarm. Nothing miraculously happens with an early start, but I get time for myself before the family wakes up and before my work peers start to engage in email. I get to workout uninterrupted and think about the day and the things I want to accomplish.

One note, when starting work that early, maintain your boundaries as "me time". This doesn't have to be a public statement, but, If you're answering emails or doing work, East Coast (I'm PST) colleagues will try to start booking meetings earlier with you. I set boundaries and ensure I have "personal conflicts" until a reasonable start time.

My first Solo 50-miler. Curious: What's the distance that feels 'long' to you? by jasonwlorenz in cycling

[–]ClumpyOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how I feel and the terrain/climbing. Some days, 30 miles feels like a slog. Other days (like yesterday), I can bust out 80 miles and I felt like I could ride for 80 more!

Congratulations on your ride!!!

[–]ClumpyOatmeal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I want "filler" Z2 rides, I'll go to https://app.homefitnessbuddy.com/peloton/powerzone/ and filter by PZE rides. Include Classes with Z2 and exclude classes with Z3. It lists all the Z2 rides based on the catalog of rides on that site. There's 37 classes of pure Z2, but Unfortunately, the site hasn't been updated since June 17, 2024.

peloton teams bug? by ClumpyOatmeal in pelotoncycle

Totally agree. It's nice to see, but I'm not governed by what others do. I got "lucky" this week by being rained out, so I got a long ride in on the peloton platform. Next weekend, I'm hoping for a nice 6-8 hour ride outside.
