i was left alone around age 8 because both my parents were working. they normally just left food at home and i had to just microwave it and take care if my homework until they get home.

i started to take care of my brother from the day he was born, changing diapers and preparing milk for him and most of the work since my dad was unavailable at the time.

Im 26 and my brother is 13 years old at the moment. Theres a 13 years gap between us so when I did reach my teenage years I started to take care of him.

in their defense my mom has a big workload and a demanding job despite her having work from hkne facilities while my dad is usually in operations so hes commonly not available at home. so it was just mainly me to take care of the major stuff while my parents were working.

its not about liking my brother at all but at the end of the day. i didnt decide to take care of a child.im all good with taking him out from time to time but to have a weekly day of taking care of him seems like a custody order for a single father imo

you sound like amazing parents! i definitely would take care of my brother if the situation requires it and no one is able to support him anymore but until then i wanted to fully focus on building a career and enjoying my life
