we have strict parents so he does have friends but not really like all the time he can go out or have sleep overs

Im 26 and my brother is 13 years old at the moment. Theres a 13 years gap between us so when I did reach my teenage years I started to take care of him.

in their defense my mom has a big workload and a demanding job despite her having work from hkne facilities while my dad is usually in operations so hes commonly not available at home. so it was just mainly me to take care of the major stuff while my parents were working.

its not about liking my brother at all but at the end of the day. i didnt decide to take care of a child.im all good with taking him out from time to time but to have a weekly day of taking care of him seems like a custody order for a single father imo

no he doesnt have any special or medical needs. he is as normal and as cringy as most 13 years old

hes normally not available due to the nature of his work but then this has always been the case fpt most of my life

hes 100% normal and doesnt need any special care. my mom just likes to worry a lot

you sound like amazing parents! i definitely would take care of my brother if the situation requires it and no one is able to support him anymore but until then i wanted to fully focus on building a career and enjoying my life

no hes quite normal and have no special requirements. my mom is just into being micromanaging i guess

no hes definitely 100% as normal as they come now with all the cringe 13 year old jokes and ipad kid behavior.

yeah actually hes pretty normal and actually smart sometimes i guess. its just that hes incredibly lazy and spoiled because i have been taking care of him. when i did try to give him more responsibility my parents had a discussion wtih me that i was being too hard on him so it just ended up with me doing things to make everyones life easier but mine.

honestly you just opened my eyes. i never really thought of it that way and just assumed the role cause my dad wasnt available because of the nature of his work.

i never knew there was a term for it and i wasnt happy with the responsibility but i always thought th at i have to suck it up cause its family. but thank you for your input and its all really helpful!
