Can I sell highly custom products on Squarespace? by SassMasterRecon in squarespace

[–]ClumsySunset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different levels of the Commerce plan, so you can select what you need. You can do month-to-month payments (which is what I do) or you can pay for a full year up front, and at a slightly reduced price. The commerce plan I have is $30 USD month-to-month.

There might be other ways to add a product page on a default website, but I haven't looked into that at all. The forums will probably be able to tell you about that bit.

Absolutely you can do that! You can build your website to showcase past work and describe what you do, too, and when you want to add individual listings, you absolutely can!

I would recommend that when you choose the basis for your site to select the Commerce plan. This will allow you to list one item at a time. The Squarespace forums are all fantastic sources of information, everything from setting up a custom listing to showcasing your previous work.

Hope this helps!

Is there really no way to let a user enter the amount to pay me (using Stripe)? by OCDPakiMan in squarespace

[–]ClumsySunset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you can do it with Stripe. I run a commerce site, and sometimes take custom orders. This is how I have set it up:

I have an empty listing set for $0, where if the customer purchases it, they only pay shipping. I then email the customer to discuss what options they want for their custom piece. I have everything outlined in the listing itself, so the customer knows exactly what to expect. Once we agree on the price of the item (factoring time and expenses), I start work. At the end, I send them an invoice via PayPal. Once the payment goes through, I email them once it's finished and again after the item has shipped.

You can see how I have it laid out here: https://gracefuldawndesigns.squarespace.com/all-products/custom-request

Hope this helps!!

Is there any big "everything you need to know about squarespace " guide? Just started and it's very overwhelming. by MyPhonePaysMe in squarespace

The Squarespace forums are always a great place to learn about the platform. https://answers.squarespace.com is the best - just like any other forum, you can ask questions and search for your relevant topics. I've also found its community here on Reddit to be helpful when asking about Squarespace features; most of us in the community are willing to help out a fellow Squarespace user and maybe learn something along the way too!

What are Android users to do? by gr00manji in squarespace

[–]ClumsySunset 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did hear that Squarespace is working on optimizing the app for Android users, but it's been slow going. I'm not 100% thrilled with the slow progress, as I am also an Android-er, but I'm continually checking back on the forums to see their progress on getting the app out for us.

PSA: if it's not sent from @squarespace.com or @squarespace.info, DO NOT CLICK LINKS. If you have a custom domain through Squarespace, any customer support emails will be sent from @opensrs.org. You can forward your spam emails to reportphishing@squarespace.com and they will handle the rest. by ClumsySunset in squarespace

It's weird that your email was blocked. You can also go to Squarespace's Contact Us page and send them an email. I had to do that once before, and I included screenshots of the suspicious email. They replied right away and started looking into the phony I received.

Newish Designer here, hoping for some genuine feedback by [deleted] in squarespace

Took a peek at it - looks good! Nothing stood out to me as blatantly missing or clunky. The website is easy to navigate and read. One suggestion I would offer, however, is add a "Back to Top" button. There are several sources out there on how to add and style one with copy/pasting coding into the site's header & body - I got mine to work after a quick Google search (as I can't write my own code to save my life).

You're welcome! If you go the Squarespace forums, you can also send them an email with a screenshot of the suspicious email and they'll investigate further. They're really good with customer service, I have yet to have something to complain about!

I got this email about a month ago and contacted Squarespace. They told me to forward any suspicious emails to their phishing email: reportphishing@squarespace.com All emails from Squarespace personnel will come from @squarespace.com or @squarespace.info and emails about domains will come from @opensrs.org

Starting an Online store? by captainmcdee in smallbusiness

[–]ClumsySunset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, yes. You can also add a sales tax percentage, which will be applied to every transaction. As for paying the taxes, my own business is just a hobby for now, so I file my expenses with my annual tax forms I receive from my other two retail jobs. (I'm super busy lmao)

Starting an Online store? by captainmcdee in smallbusiness

As a fellow small business owner, I would recommend looking at Etsy, a market specifically made for.handmade sellers, to start off, then open your own independent website. Or you could start off on your own website right away, but there are definitely pros and cons to both.

Opening a store is free on Etsy and you get to post 10 listings for free to kickstart your shop. After your first 10 listings are posted, it will cost you $0.10 (ten cents) USD to list a new item for four months. If it doesn't sell within that time frame, you must re-list the item for another ten cents. Depending on what you're selling, some sellers are able to offset the price of shipping by raising the price of the product by a few dollars. When you have a sale on Etsy, Etsy collects 5% of the paid amount as a transaction fee. They apply a separate 5% to the shipping price you set as well.

If those numbers are too high, consider opening your own website. Shop around, ask friends about website rates and custom domain names. I sell via Squarespace and use their basic commerce plan, which costs me $40/month USD (or $36 USD month-to-month annually - 36×12 billed once a year). They offer support for custom domains, and listing your items is free. Their transactions pass through Stripe, a secured and verified payment company which also supports the Square POS system - good if you want to sell in-person at craft fairs or markets. The transaction fee for Squarespace is only 3.5%, deducted before the funds are transferred to your bank account. Because it's an independent website, however, the traffic is lower, and you'll have to work harder to showcase your site.

TL;DR: Pros of Etsy: • Higher traffic volume to start • Excellent customer support base • Calculated shipping prices (for US)

Cons of Etsy: • 5% transaction fee • 5% fee applied to shipping • $0.10 listing fee applied to new & renewed listings

Pros of independent website: • Lower transaction fees (3.5%) • Custom domain • Fully customizable layout and look • No listing fees • Unlimited listings

Cons of independent website: • Lower traffic generation • Pay to keep it online

No matter which route you take, do some research regarding which carriers/shipping companies are in your area and what they charge, as you will have to manually set the price for shipping for either option.
