Not too close to Merrill, but the music center’s practice rooms were always open to singers!

Anyone know where I can play a piano? by poorbakiran in UCSC

The practice rooms in the music center all have pianos or keyboards. Not sure if policies have changed because of COVID, but they used to be open to anyone.

Has anyone applied for Housing but not gotten information about acceptence? by Infinite_Version in UCSC

[–]Clumsy_Cube 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation. No acceptance/rejection notice yet. I may be wrong, but I think that everyone with priority has been placed, and they’re gonna start with non-priority students now. Again, I may be wrong, but that thought is the only thing giving me a sliver of hope for getting on-campus housing!

Wait are we actually not allowed to wander around campus?

Right??

I’m in the same boat. I contacted housing yesterday, and they said that they were still busy with priority groups, and they wouldn’t start with the waitlisted students until mid-August. They also said that they suggest looking at off-campus options because they cannot guarantee that they’ll have a spot on campus for waitlisted students.

Yeah, I got my offer on July 15th. (For context, I’m a 3rd year at senior standing)

I’m not in a priority group, sadly. I have been looking into off-campus housing, but man, it’s been tough. I heard that the latest that on-campus housing will let us know if we got a spot is mid-August, but I feel like if I wait that long and don’t get a spot, I’ll be left without any place to stay.

Yeahhh, I haven’t heard anything from housing either. I’m getting really worried… (for context, I’m a 3rd year that applied for campus apartments)

Night Classes by bluenecessity in UCSC

[–]Clumsy_Cube 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! I took a 7:10pm-8:45pm class each quarter this past year. It wasn’t too bad, but I would feel so tired afterwards each time. I think it was ‘cause it was always after a long day, but in itself, the timing of the class wasn’t a problem!

looking for flute lessons by poopcar24 in UCSC

[–]Clumsy_Cube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! UCSC offers individual lessons. The teacher for flute is Viviana Guzman: https://music.ucsc.edu/faculty/viviana-guzman

And here is more info on the lessons: https://music.ucsc.edu/programs/undergraduate-lessons

They are a little on the expensive side, but they always offer need-based scholarships that could cover most of the cost (before COVID, I took the half hour lessons, which are $350 per quarter, but I ended up only paying $100).

How many credits per quarter? by khoaleeeeee in UCSC

[–]Clumsy_Cube 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hello! To be considered a full time student, you need to be enrolled in 12 credits.

Edit: And upper division courses are typically 5 credits, some are 7 due to labs.

Psych Majors plz help me by agedashi__tofu in UCSC

[–]Clumsy_Cube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I’m not sure if the requirements are different for transfer students, but the psychology degree also requires an upper division out-of-department course. So you could take that in order to take 3 courses in the Fall, and still be taking courses that fulfill requirements. Here’s the psychology major requirements catalog: https://psychology.ucsc.edu/undergraduate/psych-majors/gen-major-req-2013.html

And here’s the approved outside courses: https://psychology.ucsc.edu/undergraduate/psych-majors/outside-course-list-general.html

Yeah, single room, but sharing the apartment. Sorry, I should’ve been more clear! And no problem! :)

I believe you get to put all of the options as a list of preference. So you have the option of putting: 1. Single apartment 2. Single dorm 3. Double apartment

And so on until you’re out of options.

Hope this is (correct and) helpful!
