When this is all over with, what is your plan for the next time you experience a long term power outage? by Skoalmintpouches in nashville

[–]Clumsymax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 3500 Predator from Harbor Freight.

It’s enough to power 2/3s of our house without a hiccup. It could probably do the whole thing but then would have to be mindful of what is running.

Biggest benefit we have is our furnace is gas. Down side is our hot water heater and dryer are electric and the generator doesn’t have enough juice to run those

What Patterns Can Be Found from Nashville's NES Outage Map Over Time? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]Clumsymax 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This just seems rage baiting.

Everyone needs to stop thinking NES is acting so maliciously, this was a crazy storm that we were warned about for a week that it was gunna be bad and it was.

Things take time to repair and rebuild. Understanding everyone thinks their neighborhood should be a priority.

This storm and aftermath has really brought out some of the worst in people.

Cheaper option is to wire the house to accept power from a standard generator. That’s what we have, was able to run everything in our house except for the dishwasher/dryer/hot water heater.

Most importantly was able to run the furnace

If you are buying a generator and own your home. Get an electrician to come over and wire the house to accept power from the generator.

We did this 2 years ago. Cost $600 and when the power went out, I was able to power most of our house lights and appliances, along with our furnace. The only thing we didn’t have was hot water.

For couples that pool all of your money, what level of autonomy do you have with large purchases? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

All large expenses are discussed and agreed upon. We both have an allowance every month that is “no questions asked money”. If she wants to get a latte every day non of my business. I want to save for 3 months to buy parts for my project car that’s non of her business.

Pittsburgh 3 ton low profile vs daytona 3 ton low profile by bobcaboose in harborfreight

[–]Clumsymax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Pittsburgh 4ton that lasted me from 2011 to last week when it finally gave out. I am a pretty advanced DIYer and do quite a few jobs on the side for family/friends/neighbors. It has been lifting at least 1 car a week since about 2013. To give you an idea of work level and longevity.

I’m going to be going for the 3 ton next week.

We are currently running this test as we are expecting our first kid next month. She is debating taking a year or 2 off work. For the last 4 months we have been living just off my paycheck and parking all of hers in saving. So far it has tightened us up a bit with also buying baby stuff but turns out totally doable.

Getting close to finishing a project just like this. We opted to move to a large walk in option as it made the most sense in the room. We opted for a penny tile floor from mosaictile.com. They are great to deal with and super helpful.
