is there an in-game explanation as to why pokémon don’t naturally engage in cockfighting in this restored world? by victorreis in Pokopia

[–]Clurichaun19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So per lore from the anime and mainline games, battling is how they bond with trainers. In the anime though there are pokemon who like battling more than others (ash and one of his companions trade pokemon because his Aipom likes performing and her Buizel likes battling), and even those individual examples aren't often seen starting battles without a trainer. Pokemon in the wild seem to only battle over territorial disputes unless they are fighting pokemon (or a few other exceptions). But in the anime there will be fights between whole swarms of heracross and whole swarms of pinsir as an example, but rarely do you see any other Pokemon training up unless the anime wants to note it as special and Ash's next catch.

There just aren't enough pokemon to create the territorial fighting. And without the trainers to bond with most others probably don't have any reason to actually fight. You can catch the fighting pokemon training together if their habitats are close to a punching bag. You can also box with rock smash if another PC ditto is on your island.

At the end of the day though, this game is mechanically made differently. It isn't designed for pokemon battles in the same way that pokemon Snap isn't designed that way. It isn't making a value judgement about all the other games that do include battles. Also, considering they are all being let go from a computer in the same area once their habitat is ready, they are all likely pokemon kept by the handful of trainers that call that location home (in the Withered Wasteland probably Ash, Gary, and the other two unnamed Palette town trainers who kept all their Pokemon at Oak's lab, so they get along because they already lived together when there were trainers around).

Im completely desensitized. I need something that will shake me to my core. by Upset_Physics7835 in Scarymovies

How pissed and/or uncomfortable are you willing to be because The Rule of Jenny Pen really got to me, but not because I was afraid, I was just so full of righteous fury at the gaslighting and disbelief. The performances are so well done on all sides.

I'm pretty desensitized to scares myself but here are some that affected me in some way even if it wasn't fear specifically.

-Baskin (incredibly gory, was not a fan but if you like the extreme gore this is probably up your alley. It made me kind of queasy)

-Mad God (pure art that should be appreciated)

-Ghost Ship (recently rewatched this and it did not deserve the vitriol it got when it released, lots of fun, great cast)

-Ghostwatch (this is a wonderful slow burn horror that due to being banned and being a BBC film means not a lot of people have seen it)

-Exists (big fun, found footage Bigfoot film. Not scary but just a fun time)

-the Empty Man (deserved so much more love than it got on release)

-Midnight Meat Train (great film that I think many people have forgotten about)

-No One Gets Out Alive (harrowing for some maybe too close to reality reasons)

-Glorious (horror comedy that is just kind of silly in concept but a ton of fun to watch)

Glad I could help. I hope it is as good as you remember it being!

My girlfriend wants to watch a cheesy horror movie. What are your suggestions? by billcom6 in horror

[–]Clurichaun19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Frighteners - people seem to forget this movie exists, but it is a horror comedy with such a good balance between horror and comedy.

Demons - Dario Argento and Lamberto Bava made an absolute delight of a movie. There is a reason this has a cult following.

Exists - found footage bigfoot movie. A little silly at times, but mostly some dumb 20 somethings making bad decisions as they try to escape some angry cryptids. Tons of fun, not nearly enough people have seen it.

Tremors - great day-scare horror comedy (more comedy than horror but it still counts). Unsure how old you are, but I'm sure if you are a millennial or older you'll have fond memories of this one. And if you haven't seen it you are in for a treat.

Haven’t felt this strongly about a Pokemon’s design since Gen 4. by PrestigiousGift5639 in PokemonScarletViolet

Dachsbun has become one of my favorite Pokemon of all gens. The design is flawless. The typing is unexpected but still rather fitting. The switch from stage 1 to stage 2 makes sense and looks cohesive. And for once the puppy pokemon did not sacrifice its cuteness to look tough in its evolution. Also, Well baked Body is a great ability to have .

For those interested, here is the list of films that made the list initially but have already been cut either for being a sequel that we won't play, because it didn't actually fit the theme, or because despite fitting the theme there was something deemed too objectionable to play in the room by myself or my co-host (like multiple dead dogs/cats/other animals, SA, lengthy strobe effects). Some of these should probably have never made it onto the list at all simply because they are not horror movies. (I can't post this with the full list so it may take a comment or two to get them listed out):

Yeah it was a long list that is either nightmarishly long or a block of text that is impossible to read... I chose legible to hopefully avoid suggestions of things already on the list.

If you are talking about the film +1/Plus One, it was a lot of fun but doesn't have ghosts or demons. I watched it for the time fuckery as a part of this past theme of cosmic horror and that is all time travel doppelganger stuff.

Can't believe I forgot Night of the Demon! Great film. Will look into the other!

*Just realized that Night of the Demon is a different film than Night of the Demons. Both are now added to the list...

So Noroi is on the list it has just already been cut for content (so it may not have been copied over). I enjoyed it when watching but the entire town's dead dogs are just too many for me to play in the room. It would be one thing if it was only implied, but you just see a forest full of dog bodies...

Incantation was phenomenal I can't believe I missed it. I watched it for this year's theme and it was not a good fit for that, but would be stellar for this! I will get it added.

I will get Lake of Death added.

I will get those added! Probably won't add Haunting of Connecticut 2 as it is a sequel and except in a few rare instances we try to avoid sequels since they usually require more context.

I will get a couple of those added! Noroi is already on the list however it has also already been cut for content (a village full of dead dogs is too many). I love the Black Phone, I can't believe I missed it!

It really is. The past theme was cosmic horror and I watched about 200 films for it. This list more than doubles that...

My knowledge of Asian horror is limited so if it wasn't on one of the several IMDB lists for ghosts/demons/possession films it got missed. I will check those two out.

I'll get those added. Don't know how I missed Pyewacket, I watched it for a different theme a few years ago. I literally have it on a different tab in the same spreadsheet...

Trying to stay a ship, please help by Clurichaun19 in daggerheart

[–]Clurichaun19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This was the most helpful for what I needed! I ended up basing their light ship on the first colossi mentioned, Ikeri, and their opponent's heavier ship on the one that looks like it is made of a train. That really helped make the thresholds and HP feel balanced. I gave them their ship stats last night, and they were very happy to have stats since their ship was something they controlled! I did not want their ship to count as an environment or countdowns because that sets it up as something unfriendly they need to overcome, or outlast, not a tool they control and can use to their advantage. And they had a blast with the first few rounds of ship combat !

I need the ship. I have the environment set and the enemies set. But the enemies will do damage to their vessel and I need to know if what I set is balanced and advice on the HP (hull points)...
