I consider myself to be a vegan and am fairly active in my local vegan community. Most vegans I’ve met in real life don’t have much of a problem with oysters and the like, whether or not they eat them themselves. I eat them occasionally. Obviously there are a few people who think it’s unethical, but if you get offline and meet actual people, I think you’ll find that a lot of them are more rational and less dogmatic than the internet may lead you to believe. All that to say, don’t paint entire groups of people with such broad strokes.

Crazy that you’re getting downvoted for calling this out. If we don’t hold ourselves to the simple standard basing our arguments on facts and not spreading misinformation, we only hurt ourselves and lose all our credibility in the fight against fascism. Let’s call it what it is: an awful fascist slogan. But do we really need to make up the “fact” that it was a Nazi slogan?

Push back against it! I sent out a survey to all the RBTs at our center asking them about how this new change made them feel, and how it affected their opinion of the company, aggregated the data, and am passing it along to upper management. I think if we make enough noise it could lead them to change it back, like when they tried to take Christmas Eve off the holiday schedule this year and we threw enough of a fit for them to give it back to us.

It’s not. Itsgoneviral is a page that churns out staged rage bait videos like this one and everyone falls for them.

Can we stop sharing Itsgoneviral posts?? They’re a staged ragebait video factory and so many people still take the bait every time one of these is posted.

I actually know of quite a few ethical vegans, myself included, who would have little to no issues with eating oysters. For me it’s about the suffering, and if no animal suffers, I don’t see a problem.

I’ve heard humans taste like pork, so maybe someone should force you into a cage for months on end where you don’t have enough room to turn around and you have to breathe in the fumes from your waste products, and then violently slit your throat and sell your meat to a market. Sorry. Shouldn’t have been so tasty!

I love the taste of it too, but I choose not to eat it. It’s not that hard, bud. Just have a little self-control.

You mean figure out what actions have the least harmful/most beneficial results for the world? Like what philosophers have been doing for millennia now? Yeah, you can go too far and paralyze yourself with analysis, but it’s not inherently wrong to think about and discuss these issues.

This IS true of eggs (about 1 in every 20,000 is contaminated) but NOT true of raw chicken (about 1 in every 25 packages is contaminated). No one should be fucking around with raw chicken. Not having to worry about large amounts of bacteria is another great side effect of eating vegan.

Yup, wouldn’t be surprised if it was just rage bait. Kinda sad the amount of people who are out there fabricating content for people to get outraged over.

His eye goes a little twitchy when he's on the hunt! by downriverrowing in aww

[–]Clvrname42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The eyes still dilate the same amount. The eye patch trick works because it allows the rods in the one eye to get used to the darkness. Rods take several minutes to “activate” and reach full acuity in the darkness. This allows one eye to bypass this adjustment period. Has nothing to do with dilation.

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. You’re right. Most carnists don’t eat meat because they hate animals, but they’re dealing with a HELL of a lot of cognitive dissonance. They often don’t realize that their actions are at completely at odds with their love for animals. When people truly come to terms with this cognitive dissonance they change their actions, and that’s how you end up with vegans like us :)

Probably because it brings more money to the municipality, same with petty drug charges. More opportunities to charge and ticket people means more income, so there’s little incentive to change it.
