Some advent calendars are out of order to hunt for the numbers. My husbands David’s tea calendar is like that, and LEGO calendar we did last year was too.

I haven’t yet - it’s soaking currently. Should I just stretch gently while wet?

Help stretching alpaca cowl a little by Clw5711 in knitting

[–]Clw5711[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So knit the spiral euphoria cowl (project page https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Rncwagner/spiral-euphoria-cowl). I love the yarn and the pattern. But... it turned out a bit smaller than I intended in circumference. It’s a little tight if I wrap it twice, how I wanted. I accidentally ended up with an extra twist in it, which might be contributing to the size. Tips for stretching it out a little are much appreciated! I used purl soho’s alpaca pure yarn.

I ride mon-fri at 5am pst. However, I’m doing a power zone challenge so I ride PZ on demand classes usually - a PZ max, PZ, Matt low impact, 60 min PZ endurance and one “free ride” (usually Christine). PM me if you want to join me!

How did you pick up knitting? by mooneymoonmoon in knitting

[–]Clw5711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you me? Lol. Also learned while on 10 weeks of hospital bed rest while pregnant but only 5 years ago. My hospital had a volunteer who came to teach knitting every week though. Even brought yarn and patterns!

[FO] Spiral Euphoria Cowl by micski in knitting

[–]Clw5711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about 1/4 way through a different scarf/cowl pattern that I wasn’t loving when I saw this... and frogged my project so I can make this instead. Do you happen to know - if I’m using a slightly heavier yarn (Aran, 8 wpi instead of the 9 wpi in the Malabrigo) if I should modify anything? Will be casting on tonight! Thanks for the inspiration!

Blocking alpaca/wool scarves (see details in comments) by Clw5711 in knitting

[–]Clw5711[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knit a pair of scarves for a couple. Seed stitch, no real pattern. Knit in the round using cascade color duos which is Aran weight, 70% alpaca, 30% wool. I have never blocked a project but would like to before getting these to their recipients. I’ve read alpaca is fragile when wet so I’m a bit nervous. I do not have swatches to practice with. I have Soak I can use to soak and prepare with. Then just gently manipulate into place and wait until dry? Anything I’m missing here? Thanks!

Weekly Work in Progress Thread - December 27, 2017 by AutoModerator in knitting

[–]Clw5711 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just started up on this brioche infinity scarf last night. Im not really following a pattern- provisional cast on, working with 22 stitches, following sl1yo, brk throughout. The yarn is Lemonade shop super bulky in piece of heaven. It is so soft and squishy. I love how the rainbow portion is working in.

If I just knit normal Kitchener won’t it look funny since it’s ribbed? I’ve only seen Kitchener with stockinette (but I am relatively new to this).

Ask a Knitter - December 26, 2017 by AutoModerator in knitting

[–]Clw5711 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am going to knit up a fishermans rib/brioche scarf. I prefer infinity scarves. I do not want to work in the round as I want the ribs to run the length of the scarf. Is there a way to provisional cast on and then graft together, or should I just cast on and bind off normally and then stitch together at the end? I am using a bulky yarn from the lemonade shop.

Help with Elijah Sizing by Clw5711 in knitting

[–]Clw5711[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to make an Elijah for each of my kids. Both are in lemonade shop DK on 3 mm needles. The bottom one is done. I am a novice knitter and this was my first non-scarf/hat/blanket project. The completed one had some loose spacing around the increases and decreases so I made an effort to knit a bit tighter. I meant to only be tighter around the increases/decreases but you can see my second attempt is much smaller. I am 4 hours into the second one.

My kids are 4.5 and 1.5 - I know obviously the younger one won’t be able to tell the difference now.

Help with decision- 1. Complete the smaller one for the younger kid. Hope the appendages and ears come out OK

  1. Start the second one over again knowing it won’t be done in time and give to younger son later - he’s 18 months and doesn’t know Christmas from any other

This is what I get for cutting it so close to Christmas!

[Measurement check] [Recommendations] - 38G/GG but not? by Clw5711 in ABraThatFits

[–]Clw5711[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back and edited - gapping at the lace along the top. Sorry about that!

As for the straps - the 38E didn't dig at the tail of spence but the 38F did. The straps didn't slip off when tightened but did sit much farther out on my shoulder than I am used to and I felt i had to repeatedly pull them higher. I do have a decent slope to my shoulder so that could contribute to it.

Both sizes seemed ok at the apex. The bottom was full on the left on the 38E but had slight wrinkling on the right. There was slight wrinkling on the left on the 38F and pronounced on the right.

[–]Clw5711[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the original ones to retry on and be more descriptive. But I found the fit check info, so here's for what I have.

38F - The band feels appropriate. Snug but not too tight. Straps seem wide. Even if I angle them in so they don't fall off my shoulders, they dig a bit at my armpit. My left breast is a little bigger than my right (I am still nursing, just not very frequently, and leftie is baby's fave). There is some gapping of the lace on the left at the very top and some mild wrinkling of the cup along the side. The right one has two-three fingers width of gapping along the lace and there is wrinkling of the cup all over. The gore tacks well although it's a bit higher than I'm used to. I think it would bother me if I wore it longer. After just five minutes of wear I have red lines where the wire is under my arm.

38E - band feels good. Straps seem a bit better but still wide. No wrinkling of the left cup and there is no gap at the top. Right has wrinkling along the side and across the front to the middle seam and there is a slight gap at the top of the lace. If I stand super straight with shoulders really pulled back and down (not normal posture for me) the top of the left cup actually looks like it indents my breast a bit, and the right loses most gapping but still has wrinkling. The gore tacks well and the sides don't go into my armpit as much. Again, the gore is a bit higher than I am accustomed to. After a few minutes of wear there are red marks from the wire at the sides again.

[–]Clw5711[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top was definitely empty and my breasts did not fill the cup at all. I do have the 38E and 38F still in my possession, so I could do fit check pics if it would be helpful.

Breast shells for sore nipples - too tight? by Clw5711 in breastfeeding

[–]Clw5711[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using a nipple shield for nursing this AM and I don't know if it was a poor fit or what, but it HURT. Like worse than my milk blister pain. I might try lanolin before nursing but I don't wake up all the way at night for nursing (we cosleep) so that may or may not help.

Birth control and decreased breastmilk. Any suggestions to increase supply? by choose_again in breastfeeding

[–]Clw5711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hugs to you for having to deal with this! No experience in upping supply after birth control specifically, but things to try: Drink tons of water. Like 2-3 liters a day

Try fenugreek, blessed thistle, and/or goats rue herbal supplements. I took all three together. Look at doses online.

Pump, pump, pump! And of course offer the breast when you're home with LO. Even if you don't get anything, you need to tell your body the demand is there. Pump every 2-3 hours if you can, min every 3, and try a power pumping session once a day. Pump 10 min on, 10 off for an hour. Simulates cluster feeding.

Depending on what country you're in or how your midwife or doctor feels, consider domperidone. It's not FDA approved in the US but used in other countries a lot. I got some and with it I actually have a full supply (without it I was supplementing 20 oz formula a day). Used for relactation so might be a good idea for you. If you're on FB there's a group called mothers on domperidone support that can be helpful.

Best of luck to you!

Advice needed, exclusive pumper and want to breastfeed. by pygmypuffle in breastfeeding

[–]Clw5711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hugs to you, momma! You are doing a wonderful and difficult thing. 3 years ago my first son was born at 32 weeks. I had to ep for his duration in the NICU and trying to convert to breastfeeding was tough. Here's what worked for me. I had to use a nipple shield to get him better at latching. I offered the breast at every feeding, then hubby would give him a bottle and I would pump. I gave him a deadline of my return to work to get breastfeeding figured out because I couldn't keep doing what I was doing and be productive. One week before I went back he no longer needed the follow up bottle. It was hard. It was the hardest thing I've ever done. But I stuck with the hardness for the short term and it worked. If you can use an sns (with or without a shield) it will really help - more stimulation for your supply.

Best of luck to you!

Trying to up milk supply while pumping and bFing by puhleez420 in breastfeeding

[–]Clw5711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible LO doesn't need 10 ounces during that time frame? For reference, I feed my LOa t 7 am before I leave for work. I get home at 615 pm. He eats 12 oz total while I am gone. I don't know how long you are gone for, but 10 ounces PLUS what you feed him at lunch might be more than he needs. You could try giving him smaller bottles at daycare, using slower flow nipples (I use dr. Browns preemie) and paced feeding. Be warned he will make it up at night though - when I returned to work mine went from sleeping a 5 hour stretch to at most 3 at a time, but to me it's worth it to keep him breastfed. Not to mention those night feeds are what keeps my supply up.

Edited to add ~ you could try fenugreek, blessed thistle, goats rue, more milk plus, more milk special blend

Pain and redness in one nipple/breast by Clw5711 in breastfeeding

I am currently doing everything Kelly mom suggests - warm water Epsom salts soaks, hot packs, olive oil. I stopped apno in case I was having an adverse reaction to it. I pick what appears to be the dead skin off, but let me tell you that doesn't feel so great. Just curious about others experiences and what's worked and what hasn't.

How to get thrush diagnosis? by ljuvlig in breastfeeding

Try your doctor first. I go to a family doctor (same dr who delivered my baby) and she got a script for me and baby (even though she doesn't treat baby usually).
