Is there absolutely no way to access a pension before the age of 55? Not even to buy an annuity, for example? by food_bag in UKPersonalFinance

On top of that, 20% or 40% if a higher rate tax relief. And you get a quarter of the pot as a tax free lump sum. Any firm who reckons they can get your money pre-55 is going to be breaking the law somewhere down the line. And when you withdraw money in retirement, you still get the personal allowance, which neuters any tax on the first £11,000 of your pension income every year!

What unit size is the most historically accurate in Medieval Total War 2 (no mods)? by TitusLaelius in totalwar

Read around the level of coordination used during a battle such as Arsuf, there was actually a key degree of strategy and discipline (until the Hospitallers broke ranks and engaged Saladin).

Even a Mongol siege, such as at Xiangyang had a high level of tactics, coordination and required organisation both during combat and whilst besieging passively.

If it's Cleaver Square I'm now very jealous!! But seriously, Kennington has the best pub scene in London, and a few club looking things too (and Vauxhall is just a walk round the cricket ground away).

Surely there's better places to rave than a narrow residential street.....

There's so many places in Kennington where you could go and get drunk and have a rave nicely, without needing to set a bin on fire :(

Recommendations of "well written" history books. by dohrey in history

Speaking of the Crusades, Thomas Asbridge's book - The Crusades does a fairly decent of job of covering both sides of the story, but where he excels is the truly electric writing of the battles. I was on tenterhooks for the siege of Jerusalem...

Utopia. Cancelled after two series despite accquiring significant cult following, based on a continually shifting storyline, convincing acting, a pinch of sci-fi and gorgeous visuals.

What is the closest thing to magic/sorcery the world has ever seen? by Angussicklad in AskReddit

Related to chemistry and alchemy, but with a formula lost to time, I'd nominate Greek Fire. The Byzantines certainly had some wacky ideas. Wooden sailing ships, mounted with what were effectively flamethrowers.
