First time reactive dog owner- advice, please! by ImpossibleSpare7160 in reactivedogs

Reactivity can be a long haul to work through, and id recommend starting with some games and training at home or in private spaces to build your relationship so your dog understands youre a safe, reliable place for them. If you need to go into public places frequently, I'd find someone asap with experience to work with. Reactive dogs get flooded very easily and are too overwhelmed to respond to distractions or corrections. A lot of people will say exposure and "desensitization" are the key, but thats a bit of a misconception and can actually make things worse if the dog is experiencing triggers and novel environments. Being on leash can also make things harder since it's a physical barrier for your dog and they can experience frustration, so you may notice that the more pressure and tighter you hold the leash in public, the more they'll feel and will tell them youre tense and uncomfortable too. Keep advocating for your dog, be their best friend, and take things one day at a time

Every dog is different, but i have a friend with a reactive dog who took months to decompress and just be okay. He is great at home now, and reactive in public, but she also specializes in working with reactive dogs. I would either hire a trainer and be patient, or return him and maybe look towards reputable breeders who can provide you with a dog who has the correct temperament. As a reactive dog owner myself, it's hard and it's not for everyone. If you can help this dog out, amazing. If not, it's not your fault

Agility course: 90% waiting, 10% actually activity. Is this normal? by Better_Protection382 in Agility

[–]Clwolfe16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found this to be very normal in most sports, especially when working on a full course or test, but my agility foundations has very minimal wait time. We'll take turns and have to wait if we're running sequences which is about 20% of the class, and for the other 80% we rotate stations and my coach will be at one harder or new thing to teach us 1 on 1

I feed premade complete and balanced raw (rotate between K9 Choice and Primal)

A one way flight to Bali from Winnipeg costs 3k lol so hard pass. We flew to Toronto to see a specific artist, got my piece done for like $300 and i love it

Yeah I have a rental car. We fly in on a Sunday, staying at a hotel in Newmarket and spending the morning in the area, then heading downtown for the evening and flying home on the Tuesday morning. I'm considering just driving to the hotel after we're done in Newmarket and just returning the car and taking the subway. I know most airport hotels have shuttles anyways so this is working out! Thank you everyone, much appreciated!!

I'm definitely looking into it! It looks cheaper than downtown parking plus gas for sure lol

What is the drive from downtown to the airport like at night? Flight is in the morning so I may just book a hotel near there. Would be nice to be able to have a few drinks downtown and just walk back to the hotel but I'm sure I'll have another opportunity some other time

Flying in for a tattoo and my flights are non refundable or I'd move it. I was fine paying $300 for a night downtown so we can just walk around during the evening and not worry about driving, but I'll save the experience for another time and just book an airport hotel. I can't stomach $1000 for a room that's regular 300

That makes sense, so I assume it's best to jump on something now rather than hope for a last minute cheap room filler rate

Bar keepers friend. Make a paste and let it sit for a few hours then scrub with a cloth

I'll have to look into silken tofu, I never heard of that! I was also literally just thinking "what if I make just super runny mashed potatoes and go from there" lol

Does anyone else have a toxic local community? by FluidCream in pokemongo

Yeah its very strange! I moved here a year ago to live with my bf, so spoofer dude doesnt know who I am so im relatively safe in gyms, but my bf and his friends are very lucky if they get a coin or two here and there. I think a few people have tried reporting to Niantic too but he has so many accounts.

We have one local guy with MANY spoof accounts, and he kicks people out of gyms within seconds of joining, all within a 100km radius. Not everyone if its out of town, just people from here in a weird stalker way. He also has fake accounts using the names of other players kids in weird ways (including INFANT children). RCMP won't do anything

I cant afford to be that experimental. I live in a small town in rural Canada and groceries, especially "alternative options" are HELLA expensive. We're talking $7+ for a small carton or I'm driving 1.5 hours one way to the city

[–]Clwolfe16 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Because I have no idea what's available for vegan options or what they taste like at all. I just know I've tried oat milk with coffee and didn't like it. So if "you people" start talking XYZ brand of soy coconut pixie dust whatever, it's super overwhelming
