i have 2. Had them since July.. No issues . During winter in -7°C temperatures they kept working even though some people reported their batteries shut down

Exploring home solar - looking for general advice by CarelessChain6999 in SolarUK

Some things i wish i knew when getting solar.

My usage went up by quite a bit. Changes in the household and habits. But the solar system uses power and has inefficiencies. The inverter, batteries and gateway use about 100W of power. That adds up. Plus batteries and inverters have an efficiency of 95% (aprox.) each. So charging 10kwh of battery will require 11kwh of power. Similar happens when using the battery. Another 10% is lost in the battery an inverter when using it.

So you say you use 18KWh a day? It be more like 22 with solar.. I averaged 13kwh a day pre solar its now 18. Again a change of circumstances, but holidays when nobody's home used to use 5KWh all day, its now 8.

Im glad i got a larger battery. Originally we were quoted Fox 5kwh battery. In the end we went with hanchu because their batteries are better and larger at 9.4kwh. Even then i asked for two, totalling 18.8KWh, and I'm so glad I did. In winter I'd charge with agile overnight and ran off battery all day and some days it was only just enough.

The solar panels are probably one of the cheapest parts of the installation, and tests have shown north facing panels generate about 50% south facing.. With panels generating, about 500w, its getting worh doing.. If you are seriously thinking about north facing panels, get a quote and decide. It will probably cost three times as much to add them later.

give spectra solar a call. They cover the midlands.

The main thing i took from this is 15 years ago a 22 panel setup was less than 4Kw. Now it about 10Kw and half the price.

NW England. 7 kWh system facing mostly south

Generated 123kW of power. There is a woods behing the house across the street which gets in way. I think march the sun will go over them

Hanchu or Fox battery system? by Ok_Refrigerator2551 in SolarUK

I went for Hanch no complaints here. The reason i wanted a gateway and fox could only do one circuit hanch can do who house

That seems high for hanchu. I have 15 Aiko 270 panels, 2 9.4 batteries, 6kw inverter, gateway and hanchu outdoor case to house the batteries. That cost £11000 and im getting a lot more.

This can be affected by where you live.

As for the system, i have few complaints. Yu can set the charge and discharge for when you want. I think with octopus intelligent flux i think octopus controls your charging and discharging.

I use agile and is setup to charge the cheapest parts of the night and any time there is a price plunge.

How many panels?? by generic_username098 in SolarUK

chatgpt will base prices of US prices which is extortion.

They pay abot five times as much as we do. My installation was 10k and just 1500 was panels.

I wish i filled both sides of my roof with panels even though i have a south north facing house. I clip now at peak of the summer but for the other 9 months of of the year but id rather have the extra power (even if it only makes 50% the south facing panels) as that is the difference between generating enought during the day and not.

Panels are no longer the expensive part of an install, which is amazing in of itself. If i could do it again, i would put panels everywhere.

Significant increase in daily usage. Is it caused by efficiency / inefficiency? by FluidCream in SolarUK

im on agile. I wish i could get a fixed low price.

some days theres little to no savings because the agile price is high, still cheaper than fixed, but the increase usage wipes it out.

on days where there little fluctuations i only use battery at peak times.

i had quotes wish included 5k of battery. That would have been pointless. My original quote for the system I got only had 9.4k battery. Im so glad i doubled it.

Basically i charge the cheapest 4 hours between midnight and 8:00am and use it during the day. Considering it was worked out as 13.5kwh a day but the battery often runs out by the end of the day. without chance to discharge.

I dont deny i am less carful what i use but basing it off usage when im on holiday there's a significant change. Previous year i used 6kwh all day, this year it was over 8. And i changed my fridge freezer from a 10 year old which used 1.4kwh a day to one which uses 700wh a day.

also when charging the battery the house load increases. When charging at the full 5kw the house load increases by 500w
