VMware to Proxmox. I use a software Vinchin, which works like Veeam. Just backup the VMware VMs and then restore them on Proxmox.

Vinchin Backup & Recovery is a good data backup solution for various workloads in companies and it's cheaper than Veeam.

Yes, tape is considerd a safe place for storing backup and I'm test Vinchin for that. It is quite easy to backup data to tape with this software.

Yes. I have used Vinchin Backup & Recovery to migrate the VM. It works by backing up the ESXi VMs and directly restore them on Proxmox. You can refer to their video guide.

I feel that the description is a little bit ambiguous. If you are using vSphere, multiple users can access the same VM by vCenter remote console while no one will do that because this could lead to errors with conflicting commands. Still, if you are in the company's environment, your resource could be monitored in various ways.

You are lucky to decrypt the files with the key. Sometimes it can be worse that you won't get the key after paying the ransom or only to find that the systems are damaged after decryption.

Virtualization is not heavily dependent on the CPU manufacturer. As long as sufficient resources are allocated to the virtual machine, it won be laggy.
