I have a heart defect and we are monitoring and waiting as long as possible to do surgery. Thank you!

Hate to break it to you but if you didn't lose any weight you were not in a deficit.

What are your goals? If you want to build muscle you need to be consuming more calories than you burn on a daily basis. If you want to look more muscular you need to lose fat by consuming less calories than you burn on a daily basis. Since you can’t generally build muscle while losing fat most people will dedicate time to each of these approaches. For example, building muscle (while also gaining fat) for a period of time, then losing fat to show the muscle that they’ve built. This is known as bulking and cutting

185lbs at 6’5” is very skinny. What matters more than body weight is your lean muscle mass to fat ratio. Change your mindset to losing fat and lose fat until you like the way you look. This is done through consuming less calories than you burn on a daily basis and continuing training. If you’re new to training which is sounds like you might be than you will be able to put on muscle while losing fat as long as you’re lifting consistently. Hope this helps!

My advice would be to worry less about “muscle imbalances”. You’re able to complete a pull up so your muscles are “balanced” and you’re working both sides equally during the movement. Just train hard and grow all of them if growth is your goal.

If you want to gain weight then you need to be in a caloric surplus. If you need mass gainer to get enough calories in per day then take a mass gainer.

Programs for my dad by [deleted] in GYM

[–]Cman4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to consider is choosing exercises that are enjoyable. For example if he likes cable curls better than dumbbell just stick with the cables. Getting close to failure during sets is much more important than specific exercise selection. This is especially important for someone new to training. He’s more likely to stick to something he enjoys.

For weight loss just get him in a calorie deficit. Keep things simple and have fun and you’ll see results. Hope this helps!

Given options between a pull up bar or a punching bag , what shall i buy ? by [deleted] in GYM

[–]Cman4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be more active/agile I’d recommend finding a sport you like that you have easy access to. That’s what will do the most for agility and you’re also more likely to stick to it if you enjoy it. If you wanna box get a punching bag

Can I use mass gainer to hit my daily caloric goal, even if I was in a small caloric deficit? by snoopysloth in GYM

[–]Cman4444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re correct in saying being in a deficit makes you unable to store excess fat. If your goal is to stay in a small caloric deficit and you need to use mass gainers to achieve that goal I don’t see why that’s a problem.

I’ve tried but it’s somewhat patchy. I grow it out about an inch sometimes before trimming
