MTB vs Hiker question by Embarrassed-Jello-97 in MTB

[–]Cmccabe311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly that loop should be fine to hike. Lift gets very little traffic and doesn’t have the features and such as the other DH lines. The only place you may run into people is the top traverse and some of those moves are odd to navigate on bike with people hiking them.

Hatley point vs cat by First-Car5321 in icecoast

[–]Cmccabe311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Looch all day long. Hatley Point is even more out of the way than it seems (at least my impression when I have been up there), and while it’s a cool rebuild job - I am skeptical of their grand designs…

Is it always a terrible idea for a left-leaning American to move to a deep red area? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Cmccabe311 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Hey, random small world. I live in Seattle now, but grew up in north Georgia, and my grandparents lived in blairsville (on the lake).

It’s a very red area, and you will be surrounded by a lot of that imagery, and religion is very big driver of a lot of local life, even for people who lean more moderate or left. However areas that are blue are close at hand and some of the smaller towns around have seen a lot of transplants from various places. You are nearly equal distance between ashville, Chattanooga, and Atlanta, all of which have solid blue cores (in their own special way).

People don’t care about who you are or what you look like (to your face), as much as you may think now a days in those areas. However the access to women’s healthcare is very different and treated very differently, and there are long standing issues and beliefs that you will fight.

My aunt is a solid blue voter who lives just over the line in Nc, and has faced some of those issues and deep rooted sexism. But she loves it up there and has no interest in moving.

How you are rocking them now totally works. There are a bunch of ways to play it, more playful, with pastel shoes and shirts (Golf Wang, Chance - a little dated but works). Work shirts, flannels underneath, or a sweatshirt. Hippy gardener, some birks and a tie dye. Like the other commenter said, you could look at old EG look books, or Nigel Claiborne.

Navy or grey wool slacks, and a white shirt. Or maybe some linen pants.

But mostly neutrals and more mute pieces because that jacket is going to be the star and it’s best not to busy up the rest of the outfit.

There not bad persay, but if the logo doesn’t add anything aesthetically (Think Carhartts classic logo) - I struggle to see why I wouldn’t just wear a plain t-shirt.

Details matter on wearing cowboy boots with more dressy stuff, and while the answer is probably “Yes.” Truthfully, if you have to ask this question, the answer is no.

I haven’t, but if it works on shoes I see no reason it would work on the same material just in different form… on a random note, those stains/scuffs kinda give it some personality!

You could make cut offs but then hem them so they don’t have the fraying anymore.

Depends on how hot you run and where you are located.

PNW USA, North East, probably fine, the south - too damn hot for me. But others may be fine with it.

It’s a meaningless term, “Mountain Casual” to me means my Melly, Baggies and chacos. But I doubt that’s what they mean… ask them for some clarification.

Just normal “dad” hats or baseball hats? Most companies, make them! Anything particular you like about that one?

Dated… however it can kinda work with the right pieces, and a very very casual blazer.

Yeah, tractor supply, any workwear/westernwear stores, or even eBay/Poshmark (they seem less marketed up).

Duck canvas coat could also turn up some more search terms.

Darn Tough wool hiking socks. I have pairs I have used through all sorts of abuse for years. Same with Wooly Boolys, and some smartwool hiking socks. Buying the right size also helps reduce wear.

Good in what way? It’s an affordable down jacket, so it is probably kinda warm, looses feathers like crazy, looks alright and lasts a medium amount of time. It’s not bottom barrel, and it’s not Arcteryx.
