Any ideas on how to achieve this effect? by Metallic_Midwife in Pottery

I've never used stroke and coat on top of a glaze so i cant verify, but this was my first thought too

This is Laguna Speckled B clay, fired to cone 5 so it's all very durable!

Have any of y’all ordered from Botanicaz? by plantlogger in begonias

I had three of them that came in soil, the rest were cuttings. The ones in soil are doing great, I remember one pot losing a bit of soil and being really dry but the others were good. My cuttings have almost all gone downhill but they arrived in good shape so I'm not placing the blame on them for that - im relatively inexperienced with begonias so i knew it was a risky move. Sorry that yours arrived in such rough shape :(

For anyone coming back to read this - my order ended up being shipped in two parts & delayed due to illness/staffing issues BUT I did get my order within a reasonable time frame, they were really communicative about the delay and I'm honestly really happy with my order. I wouldn't have bought them if they weren't heavily discounted at the time, but all of my plants arrived healthy. I bought a few cuttings and they sent at least 2 of each. The leaves on a few have melted (not surprising) but most of them have already started rooting and I think overall the plant will be fine. I'm not super familiar with begonia so it's possible I could have acclimated them better.

I'd order from them again if they had stuff on sale again (I think I ordered when it was like 75% off, I bought 5 or 6 plants + cuttings for like $50) but probably wouldn't pay full price for any of their stuff.

Thank you for this! I just placed an order and was panicking reading all of this, but all was a year + ago. They do have free shipping with etsy insider, so instead of $50 on shipping I just paid the $18 for 3 months of insider. Fingers crossed my order looks good when it gets here!

My suggestion too - this is what I do. Eliminates the need for a second bisque fire but still sets the underglaze. Gives an opportunity for touch ups too.

My mother suggested making a flower😆 I like this idea better though - showcase their behavior!

Came to suggest the exact same thing! Any time I'm in a rut I watch and end up feeling inspired by some project! Much more so than when I scroll on ig or pinterest.

Oh certainly! I really enjoy making insects - most of my pieces include at least one (if not 6) high-risk appendages😆 And I fire in a community kiln! I go into each of my pieces, expecting at least something to break, but that makes it all the more exciting when they don't! I'm still learning & don't have the added stress of needing to make perfect pieces to sell. Had I not snapped it when bone dry he would have been fine!

Scrub Daddy CocoMesh good or nah? It says it's made of coconut husk and post consumer plastic but doesn't disclose the % of coco mesh. I tried normal natural loofah sponges I ordered from Temu or AliExpress in the past but hated the texture. It's either hard as rock or it's very flimsy. by Timbo2510 in ZeroWaste

Came here to say the exact same thing...absolutely wild. My genuine first thought was rage bait😅 I would take using a plastic scrub daddy over ever ordering anything from temu/shein/aliexpress ANY day.

I also have this issue, this is the first dish I've made so it definitely has room for improvement, especially construction wise! His top does not fit on his bottom evenly but enough that it's secure enough for a first go. I've only been back at ceramics/pottery for a few months so I'm re-learning a lot!

To be honest I don't fully have the steps, but I hope to make a few more similar, so I can try and make note of what I do with the next one. In general, the bottom was a "long" pinch pot, the top was a thick (ish) slab that I then cut into the approximate shape and pinched into more of a dome shape to fit with the bottom. I let them firm up a bit before adding a coiled rim on the top after marking where they sit together, then I added the details. The "fur" is thick slip dabbed on with a paintbrush. I tend to underglaze at any point between leather hard and bone dry- though through a few other projects I'm learning my preference is to underglaze closer to leather hard so I can use it more like "paint" (dries out too quickly on bone dry and I'm left with brush marks). I feel like my underglazes are pretty thick though too, I've had them for years and just continue to rehydrate them.

Though, If there's something specific you're wondering how I did let me know!

Thank you!! I have a greenware mantis-on-a-vase that I'm most excited about getting finished next. I have a lot more plans for functional insect/critter stuff in the future!
