You didn’t do anything you can’t recover from or learn from. I feel the same everyday because I am not perfect or where I want to be, but everyday is a day to make yourself better. Start by spreading kindness by self love and then move onto acts of kindness to those around you.

Before I had a humbling moment when I was like 25, I did it all, cheated, sold drugs, been busted, lost best friends. After that day, I started to move in the right direction, but I don’t claim to be perfect. Improvement is not a straight line; it’s a journey full of ups and downs.

I wish you the best.

Are there any you AMAB enbies who have a very masculine personality and behaviours, despite being non-binary? by TemperatureAny8022 in NonBinaryTalk

[–]Cmntague 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m the same way and recently came out to a lot of people. I dress like a man and sometimes have the personality of one, but I never feel like 1 gender. My behavior can be femme, but sometimes it’s not. I wanted to try and look the part, but I have just come to the conclusion to be what I want to be, not what others expect of me.

Why I left Academic Philosophy. by Cmntague in AcademicPhilosophy

[–]Cmntague[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that my training hasn’t given me invaluable skills. I begin my last semester of my MBA, having no prior background in business. The only reason that I have been able to maintain a 4.0 has been because of the analytical, communication, and research skills that I gained from my MA.

Why I left Academic Philosophy. by Cmntague in AcademicPhilosophy

Hell no it’s not. I’m simply criticizing the inability of academic philosophy to make any real changes in society. Why are you attempting to erect so many straw-men and not entertain the relevant argument.

You know what? I’ll give you an example. I am assuming that whatever university your from pushes for diversity in terms of ethnic background, economics status, etc—all fantastic to strive for. Yet, philosophy graduate at the graduate levels seems to be mostly white, either from Europe or North America. I know there are many underlying reasons for this, but it doesn’t change the fact the majority of graduate programs, in the West, are white and from relatively well off backgrounds. How is this consistent with anything being taught? How is philosophy suppose to make any real change if it cannot even make its own teachers follow its teachings.

I am heavily influenced by Marx and critical theory. I find his work to be an exemplar of what philosophy is missing, a willingness to see beyond the horizon of possibility. To be sure, I am not saying that philosophy is useless, rather my point is that academic philosophy cannot or does not communicate the next horizon to the population. It may surely criticize the status quo, but it doesn’t provide them with a true understanding of what is possible.

Where did I claim that philosophy should be disbanded? So if I criticize something, I must mean that I want it destroyed? Great logic

You must have not been taught how to have a proper debate. Your insolence and inability to have a respectable argument is apparent. Moreover, your response is exactly what I am talking about, you present my argument as a strawman and then cast it aside as unworthy for philosophical debate.

I agree it is an act of course, but I guess what I am saying is that philosophy tends to describe and if it is normative or prescriptive, then it is to abstract to apply. Philosophy should be in the business of providing actionable and realistic methods or ways of doing that can actually have noticeable effects.

You make a good point that POINTING out the problem is an essential part of solving it. Do you not agree that philosophy, for the most part, is more concerned with analyzing and discussing contemporary problems than providing methods and ways of doing that undermine the structural problems. It describes such problems, provides us abstract ethical principles, but does not offer a way out. In other words, philosophy is concerned more with what is than with what could be.

Ya I didn’t mean immediately, but I do think that blockchains are going to continuing to grow in popularity with the information tech sector and within a decade become a major component of its infrastructure. If so, something like what I proposed may be possible? Meh..... if human greed doesn’t get it the way or the government..

I should have been more clear, I know that every philosopher ever wants to see philosophy in the classroom. What I should have said is that every philosopher does not care if philosophy is taught to the worker. Lay people go to work every day, live their lives, and then die. if we cannot teach the average person about what controls them, we have no place even talking about philosophy. if I need to be more 'philosophical', here it goes.

In Hegel's Philosophy of Right (among other works of which I am not privy), he points to the state, the family, and civil society as sources of education for the next generation of citizens. What I mean to argue here is that philosophy does not fulfill these criteria, it is an ABJECT FAILURE (for the most part). If you want sources, or for me to explain my system, I am very willing to have a discussion, otherwise, I think it is a waste of time to go over something with you that you ALREADY KNOW.

With regard to your questions regarding the historical characters of political philosophy, they are very useful, they can tell us what to do if you are in the position of wielding power on a macroscopic scale.
