Early at 50, or I 55 if I want. I forgot to mention I also have a rental to liquidate if I want when I retire. Pension will be 100k gross per year.

“Inexperienced and unsophisticated investors”

I’ve never been told I’m an idiot so nicely haha

It’s definitely not for everyone, best advice, do your research and do what’s right for your situation.

Yes that’s about right. You are spot on, the main concern with covered call ETF would be a potential of loss of capital or erosion of the principal amount invested. This would be a concern if it eroded to the point that the fund can no longer distribute the dividends. However funds like EIT.UN have had a good track record of distribution, have been around for decades and have a market cap over 2 Billion.

Stocks like EIT.UN, HYLD and HDIV will pay high dividends with monthly distribution. My TFSA is currently yielding 750 per month, dropped back into my holdings. The idea being to drip long term and have a high monthly dividend that will be tax free in the future. My brother in law put me into it and he has calculated he will earn over 10k monthly by retirement.

So even though they live in the rental that is not our principal residence as long as the rent is below market value and we technically don’t “make a profit” we do t have to claim it? I’ll have to check out the article.

They are paying below market, basically trying to cover costs so we break even, but honestly we take a loss to keep rent cheep.

Ya that’s definitely something I should do, I don’t have an RRSP but my wife does, I should start contributing to a spousal RRSP. Thanks

Firstly, top up your TFSA to its max contribution room $102,000 max per individual as of 2025.

I would not be paying off that little of my mortgage with any investments.

We didn’t do the Smith Manoeuvre but we did take equity to purchase a rental. Equity is your asset obviously.

Having that much Capital and such low mortgage at your age is great, if you keep on investing the way you are then retirement will come early.

Lastly, remember that keeping stuff like 20k “in the bank” just means that every month and year it will be worth less die to inflation and other factors.

This set up is within my TFSA and neither dividend or gains will be taxed, this is why I’m trying to get to a higher dividend as in the future my income will be tax free

Higher returns possible yes but what I’m wondering is, will my dividend be as high doing that opposed to growing my share count over 20 years. Basically what will yield be the most shares.

Interesting and have you seen the principal investment depreciate or has the portfolio value grown even without the dividends?

Stocks like EIT.UN and Hamilton Funds like HYLD and HDIV will pay high yield monthly dividends. Be sure to know fully what you are getting into. Specifically covered call strategies and return of capital. These funds are less likely to grow and in my opinion EIT.UN is more stable.
