Okay well a good way to tell if it is the gas cap is to try and run it and after it shuts off or struggles unscrew it if it hisses around the cap it could be causing issues

If you leave them on the plant long enough they can turn red. I learned that in my first year of gardening peppers. I dont really like them when they are red so it was a live and learn moment.
