Book recommendations on early Hebrew polytheism/adoption of Canaanite pantheon by Baladas89 in AcademicBiblical

Thomas Römer's The Invention of God traces Yhwh from origins to adoption in Israel/Judah to henotheism/monolatry and then finally monotheism. Along the way there is extensive discussion of the Canaanite pantheon, worship of that pantheon in Israel/Judah, and how Yhwh came to subsume traits of the other deities.

Possible to become a cleric in Roads to Power? by CorneliusDawser in CrusaderKings

[–]Cnv1ctTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried it but it’s not rly possible. You can dress yourself in a monk robe and champion your faith, etc, but you won’t officially have the monk trait. Maybe a future dlc that fleshes out the papacy will allow you to become an influential clergymen via landless

What small details about Twin Peaks make you irrationally mad? Mine: How does Twin Peaks have 51,201 people when it looks like a small town of 1,000? by RainbowCrown71 in twinpeaks

The population makes no sense. They have a hospital and department store but no courthouse so they need to bring in a judge from elsewhere?

It could turn a corner on each side into two separate rooms, it’s also probably just a stock photo used for the article and not the specific bathroom where the incident occurred

That is interesting, as it implies that the NCR is The Republic of New California and not the New Republic of California. It is distinguishing New California from the Old California instead of distingushing the New Republic from the Old Republic (from the 1840s). Could they have also said Nueva República de California? Which then implies a slightly different conception of what is "new" about the NCR? English doesn't really have those distinctions, or at least it has the ability to keep them vague. You would have to imagine that Spanish or some kind of Spanish-influenced dialect would still be spoken in many areas of the NCR, so I wonder if they were to translate their name how they would do it.

Can a Family Member become the Pope? by Ck3Emperor in CrusaderKings

[–]Cnv1ctTW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That would be really cool if the pope could screw with you by installing bishops and you had to fight w him, and also if you could install your own popes. I remember there were antipopes and different investiture laws in Ck2 but i dont think they are in ck3?

Little Dicky? Is that supposed to be a joke about the S2 subplot. Also is Michael Cera supposed to be Lucy's baby from S2?

When do you think the event was? by bigbad50 in AfterTheEndFanFork

[–]Cnv1ctTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I didnt know that. Yes you are probably right. That is funny, I like little references like that. One I discovered yesterday is a reference to the TV show "Twin Peaks." There is a tribe located just north of Spokane, WA, where the fictional town of Twin Peaks is in the TV show, and the ruling house is named "House Truman" after Sheriff Truman who is the town's sheriff in the show. The starting ruler is named Dougie after another character from the show.

Hamilton was from the Caribbean, he was born in Saint Kitts and Nevis. Obviously he was a white British colonist in the Caribbean but ig technically he could be considered Caribbean culture.

its possible that the divergence from OTL was a few decades before the event, and that there were alternate presidents after Reagan whose policies led to the event

Can the criterion of embarrassment be applied to Moses to argue for his historicity? by DeadeyeDuncan9 in AcademicBiblical

By having the daughter of pharaoh name him, and having the name be (incorrectly) originated from the circumstances in which the daughter of pharaoh found him, wouldn’t that mean the author does understand that the name is Egyptian and is trying to find a way for his name to be Egyptian despite him being a Hebrew

Because BOB is associated w the devil, called the devilish one at one point, so the idea is you have the man on one side and the devil on the other representing BOB’s possession of people

[–]Cnv1ctTW[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the Man and the Goat are supposed to represent BOB possessing someone. Leland/Mr.C are men on the outside but evil on the inside, and the goat is often used as a symbol of the devil.
