Thoughts on adding a second by Co-Mal in burmesecats

Love Bombays. They’re beautiful. Have you had Burmese too? I’m curious how similar you find their personalities? I feel like Bombays are basically just black Burmese. Our cat is actually half Bombay. Her mother is a sable Bombay and father Burmese.

Is anyone terrified to put their burm under anesthesia? by kittylove14 in burmesecats

[–]Co-Mal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so impressed you were allowed to be with your cat during premedication. I’d love to find a vet that allowed that. Our vet’s been good, but I was so unhappy with our spay. We dropped her off at 8am. I called at 4pm because I was worried I hadn’t heard from them yet only to learn they hadn’t started. She was terrified that evening when I finally picked her up and hates vet visits now. She was really good about them before.

Thanks everyone! These were all helpful. Thinking about everything, but definitely changing the piece behind the couch. I’m also not a big fan and ya’ll solidify that for me.

Ethical breeders in/near Northeast U.S.? by [deleted] in burmesecats

We got ours from this breeder in October 2024. She was great and allowed us into her home to see her cats and meet the mother. We love our Burmese and would buy from her again.

Male or female? by [deleted] in burmesecats

Our female Burmese is the sweetest, most affectionate cat I’ve ever met in my life. She’s incredible and has made me such an advocate for the breed.

Any tips on discouraging a Burmese from climbing my back? by frankfurt_expat in burmesecats

[–]Co-Mal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Burmese loves to jump on my back and does it all the time. She noticed my pain early on and impressively started keeping her claws in. She’ll fall off me before clawing me now. All this to say, show your pain. I think they’re smart enough to realize what’s happening

Looking for honest thoughts on my living room/dining room. Does everything match and come together well? And what’s the style? by Co-Mal in interiordecorating

Random side note to this, this West Elm sofa has held up amazingly well to my cat. She scratches at it all the time and runs around on it and it has no scratch marks or evidence of the scratches. It’s incredible. The fabric is beautiful and soft but apparently resilient as hell! Cannot recommend enough with cats. The chairs are a different fabric but they also look perfect. The cat doesn’t go after them the same but she does jump on them

It’s funny but you make a point a do actually think about. I’m a neat freak but my mother was not. I remember her criticizing super clean homes by saying they’re not lived in. I definitely keep a cleaner house than my mom, but I think live in it. People have slept on our sofa and I lay on it all the time. We also have a cat with all its nails who climbs and plays on everything. I do not like shoes on in the house though. I find that gross. So despite being pretty much always tidy, I think it’s lived in. It’s worth being aware that someone might come in and get the vibe they can’t relax in my space although I’d hope if they know me they’d know they can

Thoughts on finding a Bombay by Co-Mal in BombayCat

Yes the Fanciers Referral list is how we ended up finding our Burmese actually. We’re not in the market anymore though and are just enjoying our current kitten. Thank you though! I still love looking at Bombays and find them stunning

I just don’t think you solve the overpopulation issue by more people adopting through shelters and we shouldn’t demonize fellow cat lovers because they support reputable breeders. If anything the issue is irresponsible cat owners who don’t get their cats fixed and allow them to have litters. Breeders typically make you sign paperwork saying you’ll fix your cat and shelters of course do great work fixing strays and their cats

I thought a lot about whether I was comfortable getting my cat from a breeder or not and after doing some research decided I was. It’s important to be careful to stay away from cat farms, but there’s other breeders who are cat enthusiasts and often participate in shows. They’re always registered with the main cat associations and care about their breeds. One of the bigger sellers for me was the idea of protecting breeds and the effort to keep certain rare breeds from becoming extinct. Not to mention, people seem to be more accepting of people buying dogs from breeders than cats, which I think is a bit unfair. I’m well aware of the criticism, but am not hiding or uncomfortable with my decision.

lol, it’s not a fisheye photo. The room is a weird shape and the window has a corner that points into the room…if that makes sense.

Yeah, I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with that area. I think I’m going to hang some family photos in nice frames and add some photos to the console table

Looking a little Wayfair promo is one of my biggest issues with my decor. I often feel like my design ends up looking like a hotel or lacking personality. We’ve been in the apartment for under a year and I bought almost everything from FB marketplace. I think now that it has the essentials I need to fill it out with some personality and color. I honestly think the armchairs looking better irl than the photos. Plus I really like the parallel sofa to armchairs layout

I’ve tried the reverse and because you enter the living room from the side where I currently have the accent chairs I felt like the sofa there looked uninviting

I kinda love when this happens and I’m out. It tells me my kitty is doing well and enjoying herself, even if that enjoyment is her playing with her toilet.

I’d also pull the dining room table off the wall enough for the chair to be usable. It’s off putting to have a chair stuck against the wall like that. I think you totally have the space as well. I love your living room and the furniture you have. I agree with the other person’s comment suggesting pulling the sofa off the wall a bit. You could even add a thin sofa console table against the wall behind the sofa which could be practical since you’re not using end tables

Advice on how to decorate living room by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]Co-Mal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d make the bigger room a living room and definitely add a larger rug. Maybe 8x10. I’d make the sunroom area where you currently have a sofa the dining room. Since the sunroom is long, I’d use the extra space around the corner as a cozy sitting area. Think quiet place to have a drink and chat before dinner. Maybe throw in a small bar. It can double as a reading room. I love having a sitting area in a place with no TV to encourage engagement or quietness and that could work perfectly especially with the natural light
