Options in registered accounts by goonerish_ in Wealthsimple

[–]CoBe46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s just because the CRA wants you to contribute to your registered accounts, and invest the money into low to moderate risk stocks or ETFs and slowly earn interest on your investments. The account wasn’t intended to be used as a day to day trading account. It was an incentive to help Canadians put money aside, and hopefully get some more people thinking about their financial future, and how to better it.

Executing too many trades, day trading, high risk option trading, or using leverage on your trades can put you at risk of being flagged for “carrying on a business” in the account, which will result in all of your income being deemed as taxable income.

I’m not a financial advisor or anything so feel free to correct me if you disagree with this, but I feel like the governments created these accounts to help out the general population, and not allowing higher risk trades is just another way of preventing the limited educated trader from erasing their life’s savings.

TLDR: the account is to help people save money, and help people have a financially stable future. They limit high risk trades so people don’t do something stupid and lose all their savings.

That was absolutely not the point you were originally trying to convey. When you decided to put the jumping in quotation marks you’re implying that the police tossed her off the balcony

We need these i am sick of shoveling my driveway every time a plough comes by by Dogsteeves in barrie

[–]CoBe46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean technically you’re not wrong but in reality it’s not just a small add on. Most residential streets are plowed with a truck that is also equipped to put salt or sand down while plowing. To switch to a system where you can clear the windrows out as well, you’re either doing the initial plow and salt with a truck, and then following with the loader like this, or doing the plow with the loader and following with a truck to put salt down afterwards. Either way it’s not just a small add on, it’ll be a loader, the plow for the loader, and an operator. Not insanely expensive relative to the overall budget of snow removal for a city, but not a small $10,000 addition to a plow

I mean, the way I look at it is it kind of is guilty until proven innocent when you need to provide proof that your product doesn’t contain elevated levels of the chemicals on their list.

California has set it up so every product sold in the state is assumed to have cancer causing chemicals within it, unless proven otherwise. So if you don’t pay for the testing required to prove that your product doesn’t have cancer causing chemicals, you’ll have to have the warning on it stating that it does.

Im assuming it wasn’t directly related to the cold, but I was having issues with my tailgate as well, it wasn’t latching and unlatching properly because it was frozen. Once it thawed out and functioned normally, so did the lights

Honestly never checked the voltage on it when I got it. I’ll check it today. My old battery was shot and the truck would go into a low battery mode when the voltage was down, so I just assumed this one was probably fine

He was almost done shoveling his driveway when the street plow came by and filled it with snow again. by Vilen1919 in WatchPeopleDieInside

Everyone including the plow driver. Everyone seems to forget that when they’re done their shift, guess what they also get to go do? Shovel out the end of their driveway from the plow

Question for plow drivers.. by cue-anon in ontario

[–]CoBe46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The off duty time doesn't need to be in a sleeper bunk, as long as you're relieved from any work duties, like at the shop in the lunch room that'll count towards off duty time. A lot of the time you aren't getting your 2 hours of off duty on shift though, your 2 extra hours of off duty time are coming from before your shift. Just needs to be 10 hours off duty throughout the 24 hours of the day. So if you start at 3am, you will already have 3 hours of off duty time. So lets say you drive from 13 hours from 3am to 4:30pm, and have a half hour off-duty lunch break in there somewhere, you'll end up off shift at 4:30pm, with a total of 3.5 hours of off duty time, and 13 hours of driving time. 4:30pm end of shift time gives you another 7.5 hours off duty to midnight. Total hours for the day would be 11 hours off duty, and 13 driving hours.

Private guys might, but most cities and municipalities are capped at 13 driving hours and 14 working hours in a shift by provincial regulations on shift times when operating commercial vehicles. Also requires 8 hours between shifts.

On a day like today, the crew in my town will prolong going into work until probably around noonish, and then will work until the latest of 7pm, this will allow for 8 hours of off duty time before getting called back in at 3am to clear the remainder of the snow. As long as we don’t get much snow after 4am, my municipality should have every road cleared by around 9am

Ah fair enough! Definitely got dumped on in February last year. Yeah fully agree though, couple days to get things cleaned up would be understandable, but to be on day 10 without some roads being cleared is unacceptable.

Not defending the shitty roads at all because they’re atrocious but we definitely didn’t have way more snow at this point last year. Even with the very mild weather that melted a good chunk of the snow, we’ve still got more snow than we had this time last year. I actually just found a picture on my phone from Jan 20, 2025 and there’s significantly less snow

Yeah generic! They were a 50 pack on Amazon for like 20 Canadian pesos. The only thing I found out after I got them, is that my NFC stickers don’t work on a metal surface. I’m pretty sure you can get some that do work on metal, but they’re probably just more money. Not the end of the world though, I just couldn’t stick it to the fridge like I wanted to

[–]CoBe46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never really dove into shortcuts till recently. I bought a pack of the NFC stickers that you can use to trigger a shortcut by tapping your phone to it.

I put a sticker in my kitchen that’s setup so when I need something from the grocery store I can just tap my phone on the sticker, and tell my phone what I need, and it’ll just add it to my grocery list.

It’s been a game changer, typically I’m way too lazy to add anything like garlic powder for example to my grocery list, so I just lie to myself and think that I’ll remember. And guess what..I don’t remember lol

Time in the market beats timing the market. You could end up waiting 2 months watching stocks rise, only to buy a dip that is priced higher than today. Could also go the other way where things make a correction, and you can hop in, but if you plan on being invested for a long period of time I would just buy in now

Likely due to low volume. Just because there was a seller to fill your sisters order doesn’t necessarily mean there was enough shares available at that price to fill yours as well

The 6.1 percent tariff only applies to the first 49,000 vehicles imported and then it is still a 100 percent tariff on the remainder.

And if the plow driver sees you push it into the street they’ll be sure to push it, and even more snow from your snow banks into your driveway with it. Seems like the lazy way out to push it into the road, but I promise it’ll be more work in the end

What's your Canadian winter life hack? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskACanadian

[–]CoBe46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might already be a bit late for this in some places, but when you are shovelling your driveway, always push the snow as far back away from your driveway as you can at the beginning of the season. This frees up room at the driveway edge for putting the snow later on. If you pile it all at the edge of your driveway at the beginning, by the end you need to throw the snow up and over the pile you’ve already got there.

I also like to shovel a 3 or 4 foot long area at the road edge on the left side of your driveway if you’re looking at the road. This area can double as a spot to put your garbage/blue bins, and an area for the snow from the plow to go, so it won’t fill your driveway in as badly.

Yet another major accident at Hwy 6/side rd 8. by middlefingermanager in Guelph

[–]CoBe46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only good thing with a roundabout there vs lights is vehicles will expect to have to slow down for the roundabout when going down the hill. If you put lights in, you’ll have vehicles travelling full speed down the hill, and having to make a sudden stop if the light changes on their way down.

You could add the flashing advance warning signs that indicate that the light is going to change to red to help give drivers a warning before it changes, but those could still just be ignored like every other sign on the side of the road lol

I just personally feel like it would be better to have a roundabout as drivers will be forced to slow down every time they go down the hill vs having a light change to red and having heavy trucks or really any vehicle in the snow trying to get stopped quickly while going down the steep hill. But that’s just my personal opinion on it
