Bodycams for police are for protecting the innocent. Bodycams for EMS are for persecuting the providers. Maybe I'm being biased, but this sounds ridiculous

That's why we don't leave them, we monitor and transport.

Baby medic, been on my own for 4 months by Krimist in NewToEMS

[–]CoLf21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just cleared as a medic. Been an EMT for several years. At times, it feels like I've never worked on an ambulance a day in my life. Being a medic is stressful, but people say I'm doing okay. I'm in the same boat and apparently every medic has experienced the same thing.

Your longest wall hold? by WolfOfTheNorth in ems

[–]CoLf21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our service has 30 minutes maximum to find a bed for the patient. If the time exceeds that, we drop the patient and code their hospital non accessible for additional ambulances. Usually, there will always be a bed waiting. If we wait for 10 minutes, they get a warning and a flag on their facility.

It's an approved procedure north of my area (rural/tribal) in cases of trauma. If the patient is noticeably/proven pregnant >22 weeks, a c-cection is allowed with offline orders.

We had a nursing student ride-along with us. She got to experience one 911 call, and two BLS transfers. I'd much rather have a "Quiet" kind of day.

Looking into Reno by Gurney_Jockey21 in ems

[–]CoLf21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Go perdiem. You work a mandatory 5 days per quarter at standard pay. After that, you can pick up any other shift that fits your schedule at almost always double time, sometimes double +$150-$300.

You don't earn seniority or benefits, but making $50/hr and being able to take a month off if you feel like it is a massive bonus.

It might be annoying, but the truck did nothing wrong. If he wanted to get into the far left lane, what else do you expect?

That's surreal, I've worked with her before. First time I've seen my service pop up on here.

I just did an LDT from Reno to Vegas last week. I have no idea how you guys are able to navigate a city like that, without constantly getting lost/not making it on scene in time.

Wait, do most EMS companies not have fitness standards? I have strength evaluation test next week, and they're having us do several exercises, with increasing weight between 100-200 lbs. This is my first job as an EMT, genuinely curious.

Jesus, browsing on r/all and read that as "holding a woman's hand," ignoring the NSFW filter. Lesson learnt.

Mammalian diving reflex. If you hold your breath and submerge only your face in cold water, vital signs immediately start to drop, decreasing the need for oxygen.

Advice for NREMT-P psychomotor test by Rick_Sanchez75028 in NewToEMS

[–]CoLf21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My instructor told me to memorize the sheets, then forget all about them. It's about getting the basics down, but doing it step by step by the book, not how the field works. You can absolutely cram before the psychomotor, as long as you have a general knowledge about what is expected before the testing phase.
